Event #13: Australia Heads-Up Championship

Day 2 Started

Day 2 Start Pushed Back a Day

The second flight of the Heads-Up Championship was scheduled to begin at 2:15 p.m. to mirror the previous day. However several players unregistered to play the Super High Roller and currently only 10 runners are scheduled for the day. To make sure they have the right number and accommodate several players' schedules, Crown staff decided to move the second flight back 24 hours to Friday at 2:15. That means the semi-final and final rounds will be moved to Saturday.

Tune back in for continued coverage tomorrow. In the meantime, check out the action in the Aussie Millions Main Event and in the exciting $250k.

Australia Heads-Up Championship Day 2 Begins Soon

Welcome to the Day 2 coverage of Event #13 at the 2011 Aussie Millions, the $10,500 Australia Heads-Up Championship. Today's action was supposed to have been held Thursday, but with the Main Event, and $250,000 Super High Roller action, it was pushed back.

On Day 1, 16 players entered, including Annette Obrestad, Jonathan Karamalikis, Nikolay Evdakov, Daniel Cates, David Steicke, and Daniel Alaei. After plenty of action though, it was Barry Woods and Dan Smith who were the last two remaining.

The event doubled in buy-in from a $5,300 buy-in in previous years, to the $10,500 that is required to take a seat this year.

We're not sure how many players have entered so far, but the action will get under way at 2:15 p.m. local time here and we'll be sure to bring you all the updates.

To Play or Not to Play

OK. So here's the story. Only 8 players registered for today's event. So there was a bit of a scramble to get things situated. First it was cancelled and Barry Woods and Dan Smith would play for the title, then they changed it up and now the 8 players from today will play down to a winner. That player will play in a round robin match against Woods and Smith tomorrow.

It's still a best of three format and already we've got Scott Montgomery, Carlos Mortensen, Nikolay Evdakov, and Terrence Chan in the field. We'll bring you the complete line ups soon.

Who's Playing Who?

Terrence Chan v. Anton Morgenstern
Carlos Mortensen v. Melanie Weisner
Nikolay Evdakov v. Alexander Kostritsyn

Montgomery Up One Match

Scott Montgomery
Scott Montgomery

William Thorson raised on the button and Scott Montgomery made the call. The flop came down {9-Clubs}{7-Spades}{8-Diamonds}. Montgomery checked to Thorson who continuation bet 200. Montgomery raised to 600, and Thorson moved all in. Montgomery thought about it for a few seconds and then made the call.

Both had flopped a straight, Thorson with {6-Spades}{5-Diamonds} and Montgomery with {10-Spades}{6-Diamonds}. The turn brought the {j-Spades} and river the {j-Clubs} and with that Thorson lost the first of three matches against Montgomery.

Morgenstern's Tens Win

Terrence Chan and Anton Morgenstern saw a flop of {6-Clubs}{a-Hearts}{4-Spades} and both players checked to the turn, which was the {k-Spades}. Chan made it 150 and Morgenstern made the call. On the {a-Diamonds} river, Chan bet 500 and again, Morgenstern just called.

Chan showed {6-Hearts}{j-Hearts} for a pair of sixes. They were no good however, because Morgenstern was holding pocket tens.

One is the Loneliest Number

Three tables are under way here in the satellite area of the Crown Poker Room, but there is one with an empty seat. Nikolay Evdakov still doesn't have a partner. It was supposed to be Alexander Kostritsyn but he has yet to show up. If you're reading this, get down here. While he's waiting, Evdakov is playing on his computer.
