Day 2 Completed

That's A Wrap

While the start of this day was confusing, the ending was not. To begin the day, only eight players had registered for the second flight, and there was talks of not letting the players play for the Championship since there were not as many players in this flight as the Day 1a flight. However, after some tinkering, the eight players were allowed to play and thus it began. The eight players, Scott Montgomery, William Thorson, Carlos Mortensen, Melanie Weisner, Terrence Chan, Anton Morgenstern, Nikolay Evdakov, and Alexander Kostritsyn all took their seats for their best of three matches.

Montgomery advanced and played Kostritsyn in the second round. Chan, and Mortensen also advanced. Kostritsyn dispatched of Montgomery rather quickly, but Chan and Mortensen battled for quite some time. Mortensen finally pulled the plug on Chan's hopes and he moved on to face Kostritsyn.

The two battled for two hours, but Mortensen won two matches in a row and will now face Barry Woods and Dan Smith in the finals. The three will start a round robin match at 2:00 p.m. local time and the first player to beat two straight opponents will be crowned the Australia Heads Up Champion. We'll be back then to bring you all the action.

Mortensen Advances to Finals

After a flop of {5-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{8-Clubs} all the chips went in the middle with Alexander Kostritsyn at risk of being eliminated. Carlos Mortensen showed {4-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} and Kostritsyn tabled {k-Clubs}{9-Clubs} for a flush draw. The {10-Spades} on the turn was no help to Kostritsyn, nor was the {2-Hearts} on the river, and with that, in back-to-back matches, Carlos Mortensen will advance to tomorrow's finals.

Raise, Reraise, Fold

Carlos Mortensen had the button and made it 250. Alexander Kostritsyn made the call and the flop fell {4-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{a-Diamonds}. Kostritsyn checked to Mortensen who bet 300. Wanting to get in on the action, Kostritsyn made it 800. Mortensen wasn't done though, and he reraised to 2,400. That was enough to get Kostritsyn to fold.
