James Akenhead (during Opening Event): needs to pick up chips!
James Akenhead (during Opening Event): needs to pick up chips!

Full Tilt Red Pro James Akenhead is struggling, down to his last 5,000 in chips, using his second-chance card after being smashed by Jason Samsonov.

The action folded around to Akenhead who raised to 600 from middle position before the player in the small blind reraised to 1600. Samsonov called from the big blind, as did Akenhead, to make it three-handed to a flop of {3-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{8-Clubs}. The small blind led out for 2,500 and Samsonov moved all-in for 2,900 before Akenhead called all-in for 2,075.

Small blind: {A-Spades}{A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{9-Hearts}
Samsonov: {A-Clubs}{J-Spades}{7-Clubs}{5-Spades}
Akenhead: {K-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{9-Spades}{3-Spades}

Samsonov hit the wheel on the turn of the {4-Spades}, which held after the river {K-Spades} completed the board. Samsonov is now up to 11,500, but the same can't be said for Aussie online phenom Daniel Neilson who was picked off by Luke McLean.

The action folded around to McLean who raised to 525 from the hijack position and McLean called from the cutoff before Neilson potted from the small blind. The hjiack folded, McLean re-potted and Neilson called.

McLean: {A-}{A-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{5-}
Neilson: {K-}{K-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{3-}

Despite hitting an up-and-down straight draw on the flop of {Q-}{2-}{4-}, McLean stayed ahead when the turn and river bricked out {9-}, {J-}. McLean is now sitting pretty, holding more than 20,000 in chips and still has his second-chance card!

Mirzikinian Chips Up, Akenhead Eliminated

Level 4 : 150/300, 0 ante
Tony Bloom: stayin' alive!
Tony Bloom: stayin' alive!

Having cashed in his second-chance card shortly before the break, Full Tilt Red Pro James Akenhead has just been eliminated at the hands of Aussie player Spiro Stergiotis.

Stergiotis was unable to recall the exact details of his hand, but we can tell you that he hit an eight-high straight on turn to send Akenhead to the rail. With all those cards in play, it stands to reason why being able to recall hands can be hard!

Meanwhile, fellow Aussie Warwick Mirzikinian has moved up to more than 13,000 in chips in a hand that played out shortly before the break between 2004 Aussie Millions champion Tony Bloom and another opponent. We got there just as the dealer had finished spreading a board which read {3-}{Q-}{J-}{3-}{2-}, with Bloom showing down {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{9-Hearts} for two pair, but the opponent tabled {A-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{5-Spades} for a bigger two pair.

All those cards were a moot point, for it was Mirzikinian who took down the pot with {J-Spades}{J-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{2-Clubs} for a full house. Bloom is down to 11,000 and the mystery man is busto.

Ramakrishnan KO'ed, Khouiss Crushed

Level 4 : 150/300, 0 ante

2009 Aussie Millions Main Event fourth-place finisher Raj Ramakrishnan has just been felted at the hand of Bob Trask and was joined shortly after by fellow Aussie Sammy Khouiss as the action continues here in the $1,100 Pot Limit Omaha event.

Ramakrishnan got the last of his money into the middle before the flop with {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{6-Spades} but ran into Trask's {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}, which stayed ahead all the way down the board of {4-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{7-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} to put Trask up to 30,000 in chips.

Meanwhile, Khouis was crippled down to his last 1,000 in chips when he moved all-in on a flop of {Q-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{3-Clubs} holding {K-Spades}{J-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{9-Hearts} for a flush draw, but was trailing his opponent's {K-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}. However, Richard Ashby had them both covered with {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{6-Spades}, which improved to two pair after the turn and river was spread {3-Spades}, {8-Hearts}. Khouiss was eliminated a short time later.

Kozlov KO'ed, Putt Departs

Level 5 : 200/400, 0 ante

2010 ANZPT Melbourne champion Martin Kozlov has just been eliminated by Antoine Bechara as the blinds ticked over to 200/400 and he's just been joined at the rail by Graeme "Kiwi G" Putt.

Bechara raised under the gun holding {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} and the action folded around to Kozlov who shoved from the cutoff with {10-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{3-Hearts} before the others got out of the way. Despite making two pair on the board of {7-Hearts}{4-Spades}{J-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{J-Spades}, Bechara's aces-up were best and Kozlov was eliminated.

A short time later, Putt moved his last 2,000 into the middle with {Q-}{J-}{7-}{5-} and was called by Mark Furness who revealed {9-}{7-}{6-}{2-}. Putt lost his lead when Furness paired his nine on the flop, but he took it back when a queen appeared on turn, only to depart after a deuce fell the river to give Furness two pair.

Van Marcus: vanquished
Van Marcus: vanquished

The players are beginning to drop quickly, with Full Tilt Red Pro Van Marcus and prominent Aussie online player Joel "Strong Play" Dodds amongst those to have hit the rail.

We've also caught the elimination of Rody Kaka (who happens to be Marcus' cousin). Kaka got the last of his money in with {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}, but was crushed by Antoine Bechara's {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}. Both players filled up on the board of {6-Clubs}{A-Spades}{10-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}, but again, Bechara's aces were best!

Bechara has now moved up to more than 40,000 in chips, but we've just discovered that Michael "Sticky" Guttman now sits at the top of the counts with 56,000!
