Day 1 Started

Day One Set To Begin; Get Ready To Rebuy

2011 Aussie Millions
2011 Aussie Millions

Here we are again to bring you continuing coverage of the 2011 Aussie Millions, this time with the Event 7: $1,150 No Limit Holdem with Rebuys!

It’s early on a Friday afternoon here in Melbourne, players waking up ready to attack the weekend, but not before they get their poker-fix and what better way then spewing off a few stacks and still having the chance to stay in the tournament and take a shot at a gold ring.

The rebuy event on the schedule has proved quite popular in previous years, not generating the mammoth fields of some of the standard freeze-out tournaments, but bringing out some of the best players with the bigger bankrolls.

The reigning champion from Canada, Michael Watson is likely to make an appearance, while last years runner-up finisher Gary Bensen is no stranger to this tournament, also winning it in 2007 to make him the most successful player in Aussie Millions rebuy events.

Final tableist of this event in the past have included the likes of Jonathan Karamalikis, Sorel Mizzi, James Obst, Richard Ashby and Tony Dunst and with all of them in town they will be itching to find that success again. Australian cricket “spin king” Shane Warne hasn’t been spotted in a field yet but having made the final ten in this event last year there will be no better time than now for him to make his 2011 debut.

This is it, lucky number seven. No matter who makes an appearance in todays field one thing is for sure, someone is going to walk away a lot richer and with an Aussie Millions title to add to their resumes. Don’t forget to catch the PokerNews Live Reporting team at 2 p.m EST for the Event 6: $1,100 6-Max final table. Until then keep it here for all the not-quite-bust-outs as players tackle the rebuy event kicking off at 12.30 p.m EST!

How It Will Work

Level 1 : 25/25, 0 ante

So, this is how today is going to work! Listen up.

Players will have a start bank of 1,500 chips with the first round of betting starting at 25/25.

The first two levels will be 45 minutes and rebuys will be available for the duration of these levels.

Rebuys will cost $1,000 for 1,500 in chips and will be allowed any time a player has 1,500 or less in their stack.

At the end of the second level players will have the option for a single, double or triple add-on, whereby each $1,000 paid will give players an extra 1,500 chips regardless of chip stacks.

Players will need to get those wallets ready to build that much needed big stack with the action flying loose and fast!

Lets do it!

The Field

Level 1 : 25/25, 0 ante

The players are beginning to file in, but with late registration available the field is not too deep just yet.

There is currently under 100 players at the tables, but there are few more taking their seats at every moment.

Full Tilt Pros Scott Montgomery and Steve Yea have been spotted, while Tony Dunst, Ben Delaney and Tyron Krost are sitting at the tables ready to rebuy their wallets into a coma

Yea On Both Ends

Level 1 : 25/25, 0 ante

Steve Yea has been on both ends of the spectrum this morning first getting his stack all-in with {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} but falling to the might of his opponents {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts} when the flop looked like this- {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{6-Spades}. Yea would have to rebuy and start over.

Which is exactly what Yea did, finding himself with the 1,500 starting stack again this time putting it at risk with {k-Spades}{k-Hearts} against a dominated {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}. Yea would end up with the goods this time when the board ran out {j-Spades}{q-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{10-Hearts}.

A double-up for Yea after an early rebuy, but with the play so loose his stack is not out of danger.

Channing Quick

Level 1 : 25/25, 0 ante

Neil Channing has waltzed in sat down and moved his stack in right away. It's the beauty of the rebuy tournie.

Before Channing could even get comfortable he had pushed his stack in the middle, wherby the play cam back to the initial raiser.

"This is a good spot for you to gamble it up," said Channing in jest.

His opponent cringed while he called and turned over {q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}.

"Maybe not!", said Channing turning over {a-Clubs}{q-Spades}

"You hussled me!", said his opponent jockingly.

The board ran out {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{9-Spades}, Channing with a quick double-up.

Kelly Killing

Level 2 : 25/50, 0 ante

With a board reading {4-Spades}{j-Spades}{j-Hearts}{9-Spades}{7-Spades}, JP Kelly had one opponent all-in.
Kelly took his opponent out holding {a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}, and added to his growing stack.

JP Kelly must have sent a few people picking into their wallets for a $1,000 rebuy as his stack is now up over 8,000.
