Zahid Dispatched by Former Champ

Ashort-stacked Zakria Zahid was all in preflop holding {A-Hearts}{J-Hearts} and racing against the {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} of 2006 Aussie Millions champ Lee Nelson. Zahid seemed optimistic about his chances, but his optimism slowly turned to desperation as the flop came down {3-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{2-Diamonds}, followed by the {7-Clubs} on the turn. In order to survive, Zahid needed an ace or jack on the river, but it was not meant to be as the {10-Clubs} blanked.

Zahid was eliminated on the hand while Nelson chipped up to 440,000.

Another One Hits The Rail

When a middle position player opened the pot, the action flew around to Armin Zoike and he shoved his stack all in holding {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}. Josh Barrett then re-shoved out of the big blind with {j-Diamonds}{j-Spades}. The opener got out of the way and Zoike's tournament life was on the line.

When the board ran out {5-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{k-Spades}, Barrett took the double and sent Zoike home with $15,000 for his time.

Stuart Kerr Busts

Stuart Kerr folded pocket kings to Phil Ivey earlier today, he made the money, but now he's gone. On a {6-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{6-Spades} board his last 45,000 chips went into the pot and Minh Nguyen made the call.

Stuart Kerr{K-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}
Minh Nguyen{A-Spades}{6-Hearts}

"Oh damn, I should have bet the flop! But wait, you probably wouldn't have folded right?", Kerr questioned his play. The river was the {9-Diamonds} and that was it for Kerr. We are down to just 59 players.

Grigg Gets Got

Tom Grigg (on Day 2)
Tom Grigg (on Day 2)

Tom Grigg got the last 104,500 of his chips in before the flop with {A-Spades} {Q-Diamonds}, and Andrew Mellado was racing for the knockout with his covering stack and the {9-Clubs} {9-Hearts}.

Mellado's pair held fast as the board ran out blanks: {7-Spades} {3-Hearts} {5-Hearts} {J-Spades} {2-Hearts}.

That's another player down, and Grigg's first career Aussie Millions cash nets him AU$15,000.

Queen on the River Sends Wakeman to the Rail

Action folded around to Matt Wakeman on the button and he moved all in for 108,000. Stanley Wu was in the big blind and made the call.

Showdown

Wu{A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}
Wakeman{10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}

It was a classic race, but Wakeman was ahead. He dodged the {7-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{3-Diamonds} flop, as well as the {9-Spades} turn. Wakeman was just one card away from a double, but much to his dismay, the {Q-Spades} spiked on the river to put an end to his 2012 Aussie Millions Main Event dreams.

Lui's Run Ends

Patrick Lui
Patrick Lui

On the bubble he doubled up numerous times, but in the first hand after the break he lost his last chips. Paul Sing raised to 12,000 from the cut-off and Lui pushed all-in from the small blind for around 45,000 chips. Sing made the call.

Patrick Lui{J-Diamonds}{J-Spades}

Up until the river the board looked perfect for Lui who saw {10-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{9-Hearts} pop up. The river brought out the {J-Hearts} and even though that gave him a set, Sing hit his straight. Lui takes home $15,000 AUD for his efforts.

Double Elimination

Stanley Wu has just dealt the fatal blow to two players. Wu held {a-}{a-} and had enough chips to cover Lorinda Johnson who held {a-}{k-}. Paul Wilde was also all in, holding {k-Hearts}{9-Hearts}.

The board ran out {q-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{2-Clubs} and Wu took down the nice hand, while Wilde officially goes home in 72nd place and Johnson home in 71st place. They both received $15,000 AUD for that effort.
