Hero Call Hits O'Shea in the Face

Tim O'Shea
Tim O'Shea

Things just got really, really, really interesting at Table 31. But I mean: Really interesting. We missed the pre flop action, but hey, the fireworks started after that anyway. The flop read {3-Spades}{4-Spades}{2-Hearts} when a floor person brought us up to speed with the bet sizes as the dealer put out the turn. O'Shea, who was in the big blind, had bet 35,000 and from the button Daniel Idema raised to 75,000. O'Shea made the call.

The turn was the {Q-Hearts} and O'Shea checked to the 2011 WSOP $10,000 Limit Hold'em champion who bet 125,000. O'Shea tanked for a bit and finally ending up calling.

The river was the {3-Diamonds} and O'Shea checked once again. "I'm all-in", Idema announced as O'Shea went deep into the tank. "Count please?" O'Shea asked after 30 seconds, and Idema's stack was counted down to 363,000 chips. If O'Shea would call and lose he would be left with exactly the same amount making this the biggest pot we have seen today. After tanking for over two minutes O'Shea announced the call and Idema shook his head as he got up from his chair. The Canadian flipped over {5-Diamonds}{5-Spades} and he got ready to leave the tournament. Things couldn't have been more different as O'Shea sighed and mucked his cards.

Tim O'Shea just made a huge hero call for the a very big portion of his stack, but he was wrong and Daniel Idema is now one of the chip leaders.

Scheduling Notes

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

By the by...

We're scheduled to play five two-hour levels today with a dinner break after the third. That's still the tentative plan for now, though we may end up trimming one level off the end of the night if play keeps progressing this quickly. The staff has also told us that the field will break for dinner early if they get down to 36 players before the end of the next level.

The survivors will play at least one more level after dinner, and they'll continue on for one more level after that if we still need to thin the field further.

In short: Four or five levels with a dinner break today.

Li Makes Big-Time Call to Double

With about 150,000 in the pot and a board reading {10-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{2-Clubs}{2-Spades}, Rob Angood slid out a big bet of 400,000, enough to put his opponent, Bjorn Li, all in. Li had 290,000 behind and thought for about two minutes before quietly announcing a call. Angood sheepishly turned over {A-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for a missed flush draw.

Li then revealed {5-Clubs}{6-Clubs} for a missed flush draw of his own, but his pair of fives was what he was calling with. The table was impressed with Li's call and watched an obviously talented opponent double to 750,000.

The 2006 Champ Stays Alive

Lee Nelson
Lee Nelson

Lee Nelson, who won the Aussie Millions Main Event in 2006, is still going strong today. He was just all-in for almost his entire stack against Rob Raymond. Nelson opened the action with a raise to 13,000 from the cut-off after which Raymond three-bet to 28,000 from the button. Both blinds folded and Nelson decided to pop it up to 90,000. Raymond pushed all-in and Nelson made the call for 273,000 total.

"Deuce-three-seven!", Nelson rooted for a good outcome. The flop was {K-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{6-Hearts} and this almost secured his near double up. The turn was the {8-Clubs} and the river the {10-Diamonds} giving Nelson the knock out. He had Raymond only covered by 6,000 chips and is now cruising as we head into the final stages of the tournament.

Croc Exits

Billy "The Croc" Argyros
Billy "The Croc" Argyros

Billy Argyros was down to only 55,000 when he shoved his stack in from the cutoff seat. Mile Krstanoski made the call on the button and "The Croc" would watch as his tournament life was on the line.

"I hope you don't have a pair," said Argyros as he tabled his {4-Clubs}{4-Hearts}. Unfortunately for Argyros, the {7-Spades}{7-Clubs} of Krstanoski would be well in front and when the board ran out {k-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{3-Spades}, it was all over in 51st place for Argyros.
