Boobekov Turns Quads

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

A short-stacked Nurlan Boobekov moved all in under the gun for 12,600 and received a call from Mike Watson in the hijack. The rest of the field folded and it was off to the races.

Watson: {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}
Boobekov: {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}

An ace in the window generated some excitement, but much to Boobekov's relief it was followed by a nine on the {A-Hearts}{4-Spades}{9-Diamonds} flop. Boobekov had a hammerlock on the hand, and just for good measure, the dealer burned and turned the {9-Clubs}. The meaningless {3-Diamonds} was run out on the river and Boobekov's quads gave him a double within the first ten minutes of play.

Georges Likes Payne

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

On the {7-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{3-Spades} flop, John Georges fired 7,000 and Brian Payne raised quickly to 26,500. Georges called all in for 18,200 with the {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}. He was up against the {A-Spades}{6-Spades} for Payne.

The turn was the {7-Hearts} and river the {K-Hearts}. Georges won the pot and doubled up to a little over 40,000.

Shortly after that, Payne doubled up Georges again, and now Georges has about 90,000 in chips.

Good Old Aces vs Kings

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

We just caught the very last bit of a hand that cost Mike Watson most of his chips. The board read {2-Hearts}{9-Spades}{J-Spades}{3-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} when the dealer picked up Watson's {K-Spades}{K-Clubs} and tossed them into the muck. Jarrod Glennon had shown {A-Hearts}{A-Spades} and dragged in a nice double up.

Watson still has some chips to play with, but it's not nearly as comfortable compared to half an hour ago.

Ramakrishnan Dispatches Klann

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Kenny Tran opened for 2,500 under the gun and Rajkumar Ramakrishnan called from early position. Action then folded around to Paul Klann in the small blind and he moved all in for roughly 26,000. Tran thought for a solid minute before folding, and Ramakrishnan, who was sitting on a big stack, shrugged before calling.

Ramakrishnan: {K-Spades}{Q-Spades}
Klann: {8-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}

It was a flip, and one that came down in Ramakrishnan's favor when the board ran out {Q-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}. With that, Klann his the rail while Ramakrishnan continued to climb up the chip counts.

Get in the Van

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

"AZIZTAAAA!" was the yell we heard from Table 30 where Van Marcus is sitting. That caught our attention, and we made our way over to see that Marcus had just picked up a nice pot to move over 80,000 from Julius Colman.

On the hand, Colman check-raised Marcus on the {6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} flop from 7,000 to 23,500. Marcus called.

The turn was the {4-Diamonds}, and Colman checked. Marcus moved all in for around 30,000, and Colman gave it up.

After the hand, Marcus wanted us to add a little note telling a special someone he misses them, followed by a "<3."

Mercier Unlucky

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Robert Fenner just raised under the gun to 2,500 and the action was folded to Brian Payne in the small blind. The overall Day 1 chip leader doesn't like folding and put in a three-bet to 6,000. Jason Mercier was next to act in the big blind and he four-bet to 16,500.

Fenner took a little time before deciding to move all in. Payne quickly folded his cards and Mercier called.

Mercier: {K-Spades}{K-Hearts}
Fenner: {A-Spades}{K-Clubs}

Mercier was in great shape for a big double up, but the flop brought {A-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{5-Spades}. The one out Mercier needed to win this pot didn't come as the turn, the {J-Diamonds}, and river, {7-Hearts}, brought mere blanks.

Mercier is really short now and he will be all in for his tournament life shortly.

Guttmann Goes Runner-Runner to Stay Alive

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

A short-stacked Michael Guttmann moved all in from the cutoff for 13,000 and received a quick call from Pratyush Buddiga on the button. Both blinds folded and Buddiga tabled the {J-Spades}{J-Hearts}, which dominated Guttmann's {J-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}.

The {K-Hearts}{4-Spades}{7-Hearts} flop was pretty dry for Guttmann and he stood to make his exit. The {9-Spades} turn gave him pause though as it delivered a double belly-buster straight draw. Much to Buddiga's disgust, the {8-Clubs} river completed it. "Straight," Guttman exclaimed in delight as he sat back down in his chair.

Andreadis Straightened Out

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

We didn't catch all the action, but we do know that Jim Andreadis got his last 30,000 all in on a {10-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{K-Clubs} flop holding the {Q-Diamonds}{J-Spades} and was dominated by Mitchell Oates, who had flopped the nuts with the {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}.

Andreadis needed an ace just to chop, but he wouldn't find it as the {8-Hearts} appeared on the turn followed by the {7-Hearts} on the river.
