Kanit Makes a Big Call to Send Lakemeier Home

Level 11 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante
Jens Lakemeier
Jens Lakemeier

Jens Lakemeier raised from the hijack to 8,000 and small blind Mustapha Kanit called. Big blind Jack Salter came along as well.

Kanit and Salter checked on {9-Spades}{3-Spades}{2-Hearts} and Lakemeier fired 13,000. Kanit was the only caller as Salter folded.

The {7-Diamonds} hit the turn and this time Kanit check-called a bet of 28,000. With the {J-Diamonds} completing the board, Kanit checked for the third time. Lakemeier shoved for 75,200 and Kanit tanked for a bit before he called.

Lakemeier showed {Q-Spades}{10-Clubs} for not much of anything, Kanit took it down with {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds}.

Chen Pays Off Leenen

Level 11 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

On a {A-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{4-Clubs} board, Stefan Leenen bet 31,000 from the cutoff. His neighbor, James Chen on the button, called.

Leenen, the sole Dutch player in the field today, shoved for 36,300 on the {9-Clubs} turn. Chen tanked for a bit before he called with {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}. Leenen showed {A-Hearts}{J-Spades} and doubled after the {4-Spades} completed the board.

Buddiga Knocks Out Watson

Level 11 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

Pratyush Buddiga checked on a flop of {8-Spades}{3-Spades}{3-Diamonds} only to see his neighbor Mike Watson bet 6,000. Buddiga check-raised to 16,500 and called the shove for 80,000 or so that followed.

Pratyush Buddiga: {5-Hearts}{3-Hearts}
Mike Watson: {Q-Spades}{10-Spades}

The {10-Clubs} on the turn gave Watson some new outs but the {4-Clubs} on the river wasn't one of them. Exit for Watson, a small fortune for Buddiga.

Another One Bites the Dust

Level 11 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante

Antoine Saout was responsible for Alexander Trevallion's bust out just now. The two got it in with {K-}{J-} versus {6-}{6-} and Saout reigned supreme after the board ran out in his favorite.

Saout, who final table the WSOP Main Event back in 2009 (3rd for $3,479,670) and finished 25th for $269,430 in the event last year, up to 400,000 in chips.

Alexander Trevallion, who won this event in 2015 (A$645,150/$521,835) and finished 8th in the $100,000 that year (A$310,000/$244,943), now out well before the money.

Grayson Ramage Eliminated

Grayson Ramage
Grayson Ramage

Grayson Ramage, the first chipleader of the day having knocked out Jason Mo with set over set, has just been eliminated from the tournament.

On a board of {K-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{8-Hearts}{3-Spades}{9-Diamonds}, he was facing a shove from Anton Astapau who had him covered. He thought about it for a bit before calling it off with {K-Spades}{Q-Spades}. Astapau showed {J-Clubs}{Q-Clubs} for the winning straight and Ramage was heading for the exit.

Chen Knocks Out Tollerene Calling With Queen-High

Level 10 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Ben Tolerene
Ben Tolerene

We missed the action but got there in time to write down the hands and board as a whole lot of people were swarming Table 25.

We later learned from one player at the table that James Chen and Ben Tollerene had both committed chips before the flop with the flop coming {8-Clubs}{5-Spades}{10-Diamonds}. James Chen, who won the 2016 Macau Poker Cup High Roller for HK$ 2,273,000 ($293,044) last September, then bet 28,000. Ben Tollerene shoved for 72,000 more and Chen called.

Chen tabled {Q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for queen-high with a gutshot, Tollerene tabled {9-Spades}{7-Spades} for an open-ended.

The {J-Hearts} on the turn filled up Chen and Tollerene left the tournament area after the {6-Diamonds} completed the board.

The rail and other players at the table were in awe after what they had just witnessed. Especially Daniel Shak was very vocal about the hand, underlining that shoving was much easier than calling in that spot.
