Triple Up for Kessler

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Allen Kessler was short and got the chips in preflop to pick up one caller. Hyung Sun Jung then reshoved to isolate and Kessler was at risk.

Allen Kessler: {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}
Hyung Sun Jung: {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}

The {k-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{2-Hearts} flop gave Kessler a set and he held up on the {2-Diamonds} turn and {6-Clubs} river run out.

"Did you win?" Martin Zamani from one seat over asked and then added: "good job Allen, you finally got it in bad."

Jeff Fielder mentioned in table chat that it was a one-outer as he had folded a king.

A Double for Steicke

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Andrew Theakstone called the shove of David Steicke on the {k-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{8-Hearts}{q-Spades}{9-Clubs} river and mucked his cards as Steicke tabled {a-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for the nut straight. The same table also features Kristen Bicknell, among others, while Mikel Habb and Mitchell Watson are no longer in contention.

Stavropoulos Needs to Catch Some Heat

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Former champ Manny Stavropoulos raised to 2,300 in early position and John Dalessandri flatted in middle position. Rehman Kassam jammed for 33,700 out of the small blind and Stavropoulos folded, leaving himself with last 16,800. Dalessandri gave it a brief thought but he couldn't call either.

Aces No Good for Hata

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Aymon Hata opened and four-bet jammed over Gavin Flynn at a table that also included Kahle Burns.

Aymon Hata: {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}
Gavin Flynn: {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}

Flynn was dominated but picked up a gutshot on the {7-Spades}{k-Clubs}{10-Spades} flop. The turn {j-Diamonds} completed his straight, and he avoided an unlikely chop on the {2-Spades} river to eliminate Hata.

Young Eliminates Argyros

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

We spotted Billy 'The Croc' Argyros on the rail, who told us that he had his aces cracked by Rory Young to bust the tournament in a hand that appeared to move Young among the chip leaders.

According to Argyros, he was involved in a three-way pot on {a-}{8-}{9-} with the Australian Poker Hall of Famer holding {a-}{a-} for top set.

After a bet and a raise went in on the flop, one player bet on the {6-} turn and Young raised to 42,000. Argyros moved all in for just over 50,000 and the first player folded. Young called with {10-}{7-} for a straight and the board failed to pair on the river, eliminating Argyros.

Zarb Takes It All From Higgs

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Sam Higgs
Sam Higgs

Corey Zarb was moved over to table 10 not long ago and was just all-in for 25,200 with {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} against the {k-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} of Sam Higgs.

The board came {10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} and Zarb had the checkmark on the turn.

Higgs was down to around 25,000 and in the blinds next. Zarb opened to 2,200 and Sparrow Cheung three-bet to 6,200. Higgs jammed, as did Zarb, and Cheung folded.

Sam Higgs: {a-Hearts}{q-Hearts}
Corey Zarb: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}

Higgs could all but smile and said "I need a queen both times" in table chat.

The board came {j-Spades}{7-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{4-Spades} and the kicker played to eliminate Higgs.

Burns the Chip Leader

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Kahle Burns
Kahle Burns

Kahle Burns came into the day second in chips behind Kazuhiko Yotsushika, but looks to be the leader now after winning a series of pots.

His latest hand came on a {q-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{4-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} board where Win Tan checked to Burns who bet 2,900. Tan then check-raised to 11,000.

"I think that river helped you," said Burns as he pondered his decision before eventually calling.

Tan showed {5-Clubs}{4-Clubs} for five high and threw his chips forward, allowing Burns to take down the pot with {k-Spades}{7-Spades} for a pair of sevens
