Play Finished in Day 1B
Another big turnout on Day 1b of the $1 Million GTD Opening Event saw 91 players survive from a field of 589 entries, all safely through 15 levels and into Day 2.
That latest wave has pushed the overall tally to 992 entries and a prize pool of AUS $1,289,600, meaning it took less than two flights for the $1 million guarantee to be smashed. With two flights still to go, the focus has quickly shifted from whether the guarantee will be covered to just how big this thing is going to get.
Sunday still has plenty in store, with Day 1c and Day 1d both on the schedule and expected to draw more big fields.
Tournament director Danny McDonagh floated the idea yesterday that the prize pool could climb as high as $2 million, with the possibility of 2,000 entries not out of the question. Judging by how things have gone so far, that prediction suddenly doesn’t sound too far-fetched.
Stay tuned for the full Day 1b chip counts.
