2025 Australian Poker Open
The all-in trend continued as in the second hand back from break, Corey van Jaarsveldt shoved for 4,200,000 from the small blind and Andrew Samoa called in the big blind.
Corey van Jaarsveldt: A♣4♦
Andrew Samoa: Q♣10♣
Van Jaarsveldt was marginally ahead and remained in the lead through the 3♣7♥3♦ flop. However, a Q♠ on the turn paired Samoa and left van Jaarsveldt with just one chance at three outs. There would be no reprieve for van Jaarsveldt on the 2♥ river, and he was eliminated in 5th.
Michael O'Grady made it 1,600,000 to go from the cutoff and Majid Shahikarijani shoved for 4,700,000 from the small blind. O'Grady called.
Majid Shahikarijani: 9♥9♦
Michael O'Grady: K♠Q♦
In the first hand back from the break, Shahikarijani was at risk but held the lead with his pocket nines. Those nines held up on the A♦2♥4♥3♣2♦ runout, earning him a much-needed double-up.

The flop came Q♥2♠4♣ and van Jaarsveldt bet 600,000, which Samoa called to the J♦ turn, where both checked.
A 10♥ completed the board and van Jaarsveldt bet 1,500,000. Samoa thought for a while and eventually decided to call.
Van Jaarsveldt then showed a bluff with 7♣5♣, and Samoa showed he me made the hero call with 9♥4♠ for a pair of fours.
Welyam Gelyana opened to 1,650,000 from the button and Shayne Sim defended from the big blind.
On the 10♦6♣5♣ flop, Sim checked and Gelyana bet 4,000,000. Sim then shoved for 7,300,000, and Gelyana eventually called.
Shayne Sim: J♣9♣
Welyam Gelyana: Q♥10♥
Sim had a plethora of outs but was behind to the pair of tens of Gelyana. The 2♦ on the turn was a total brick, as was the A♥ river, which meant Sim was out in sixth.
Shayne Sim shoved 7,300,000 from the hijack with 6♥6♦ and the action got to Welyam Gelyana in the big blind with 3♠3♣.
Gelyana was last to act and decided to turn his hand over while he decided how to proceed, and eventually did settle on a fold. The floor then came over to give him a warning to Gelyana for exposing his cards while there was still action, but no penalty was given.
Michael O'Grady picked up K♥K♣ on the button and made it 1,500,000 to go. Majid Shahikarijani was in the big blind and called with A♥2♥.
Both saw the J♠5♣6♦ flop and Shahikarijani led out for 1,800,000. O'Grady called to see the 7♠ on the turn and Shahikarijani slowed down with a check. O'Grady then fired out a bet of 3,700,000, which got Shahikarijani to quickly fold.
