Shahikarijani Wins a Flip Against O'Grady

Kai Cocklin

Level 36 : Blinds 600,000/1,200,000, 1,200,000 ante

Majid Shahikarijani shoved around 10,000,000 from the button and when it got to Michael O'Grady in the big blind, he immediately called.

Majid Shahikarijani: K♥9♦ All in
Michael O'Grady: 8♥8♣

O'Grady had a chance to take a ginormous chip into heads-up play, but that seemed unlikely after the Q♣2♠K♣ flop gave Shahikarijani top pair.

"Club for a sweat," said O'Grady. Instead, the 2♦ rolled off on the turn, putting Shahikarijani one step closer to a double-up. The Q♦ did lock up the pot for Shahikarijani, who doubled to around 22,000,000.

In the very next hand, Welyam Gelyana shoved for around 9,000,000 and Michael O'Grady called from the big blind.

Welyam Gelyana: A♣J♣ All in
Michael O'Grady: K♥8♥

Gelyana was ahead with his ace-high but fell into a deep, dark hole when the flop came K♦K♣6♠, giving O'Grady trips. A 5♣ on the turn did give Gelyana a flush draw, but it was death by quads as the K♠ dropped on the river, sending Gelyana out in fourth.

Level 35 : Blinds 500,000/1,000,000, 1,000,000 ante

Michael O'Grady raised to 2,000,000 from under the gun and Welyam Gelyana called on the button. Andrew Samoa also came along from the big blind.

The trio saw a flop of Q♥5♦A♠ which checked to O'Grady, who bet 2,500,000. Only Gelyana called and the K♥ dropped on the turn. Again O'Grady bet, this time for 3,800,000, and again Gelyana called.

A J♥ filled out the board and O'Grady went with a small bet of 2,400,000. Gelyana didn't need to think for too long before he called.

O'Grady then revealed a flush with 5♥4♥, beating the rivered straight of Gelyana, who held K♠10♥.

Level 35 : Blinds 500,000/1,000,000, 1,000,000 ante

Michael O'Grady made it 2,000,000 from the button and Welyam Gelyana shoved around 6,000,000 from the small blind. O'Grady called.

Welyam Gelyana: K♣9♣ All in
Michael O'Grady: Q♦9♠

Gelyana was in the lead and would relieve some of the pressure on him if he could double up. It was all over by the time the 5♣6♣2♣ flop hit the table as Gelyana flopped the nut flush, leaving O'Grady drawing to runner-runner straight flush for a chop! That miracle didn't occur as the K♦Q♥ runout locked up the pot for Gelyana.

Level 35 : Blinds 500,000/1,000,000, 1,000,000 ante

Michael O'Grady made it 2,000,000 from under the gun with K♦9♣ and Andrew Samoa called from the big blind holding J♠2♠.

Both saw the 7♦A♦2♣ flop where Samoa check-called a bet of 1,500,000 from O'Grady to the 6♦ turn. Again Samoa checked, then O'Grady fired 5,500,000, which earned him the pot as Samoa folded.

Level 35 : Blinds 500,000/1,000,000, 1,000,000 ante

Welyam Gelyana made a big raise to 4,000,000 from under the gun and Majid Shahikarijani shoved for 8,400,000 from the button. When it got back to Gelyana, he called.

Majid Shahikarijani: K♥J♣ All in
Welyam Gelyana: Q♦J♥

Shahikarijani had a dominating hand and a huge opportunity to get back into contention. His hand did manage to hold but it wasn't without a sweat as the runout of K♠A♦9♦7♦6♠ bricked out for Gelyana.

Samoa Spikes the River

Level 34 : Blinds 400,000/800,000, 800,000 ante

Welyam Gelyana opened to 2,200,000 on the button holding A♥J♦ and Andrew Samoa called from the big blind with Q♥10♦.

When the flop came down 4♠K♥4♥, Samoa checked in flow and Gelyana opted to check back to see the 8♥ fall on the turn. The action went check-check again and the Q♦ hit the river, pairing Samoa.

Again both checked, and Samoa's rivered pair of tens was good for the pot.

Welyam Gelyana made it 2,200,000 from under the gun, and Andrew Samoa called from the small blind.

The flop came 7♠3♥Q♥ and Samoa led out for 2,300,000. Gelyana then took around a minute before he min-raised to 4,600,000, then Samoa immediately shoved for 13,000,000 total. Gelyana again took some time but ultimately decided to call, putting Samoa at risk.

Andrew Samoa: 7♦7♣ All in
Welyam Gelyana: J♠J♣

Samoa had flopped middle set and was a huge favorite to move up the leaderboard. Gelyana, on the other hand, was at risk of becoming one of the shorter stacks if he couldn't find a jack on either the turn or river.

Neither the turn nor river could deliver any help to Gelyana as the 2♥5♣ runout kept the set of Samoa in the lead, earning him a double-up.
