The Regency Ballroom will be buzzing today, as hundreds of qualifiers converge at the Doubletree by Hilton Boston Milford for a shot at Eastern Poker Open glory.
Day 1 of The $34,000 Championship begins at 10:00 a.m. local time, when invited players from Season 34 of the Eastern Poker Tour will take their seats eyeing a spot in the money and a seat in Sunday’s finale.
The field will be trimmed down to the final 16 players, who will each earn $150 and advance to Day 2. Today’s chip leader will also win a Bar Poker Open $400 hotel & seat package.

Each invitee will start with at least 20,000 chips, with some players earning bonus chips to begin play. Blinds will open at 100/200 with a 200 big blind ante.
The final 16 remaining players will then join other Day 2 qualifiers from the monthly championships, regional winners, and wild card spots to battle for the title on Sunday.

Three players limped before Ardany Recinos checked his big blind option to see the 4♥A♦A♥ flop. All four players checked around and the dealer revealed the J♦ turn.
Recinos followed a check from the small blind by betting 1,000, which found a single call in middle position. The 2♦ river saw Recinos lead out for 2,100, taking down the pot as his opponent folded.
After starting the day with 26,000 chips, the representative of Ev'rybody's Pub in North Providence, Rhode Island was off to a strong start.

This year's $34,000 Championship event marks 20 years of the Eastern Poker Tour.
The tour has run a staggering total of 40,232 events, with 52,967 players taking part at 675 locations.
Along the way, over 240 monthly championships have been contested and this event is the 34th seasonal championship.
The Eastern Poker Tour has also awarded dozens of WSOP Main Event seats, with the first coming back in 2006.
With the small blind all in on his right, Bill Haley of Central Mass was one of three callers to see the A♣5♣K♥ flop.
Action was checked through to the J♥ turn, and again to the Q♥ river. Haley turned over 10♠10♣ for a Broadway straight to earn the pot and score an early knockout.

Three-way action to the J♠A♠6♥ flop had Patrick Banyaniye facing an all in for 8,100 on his left. After another opponent folded across the table, Banyaniye took a moment before sliding in the call.

Banyaniye's flush draw was trailing a pair of aces, but the 5♣ turn brought some additional straight outs. The dealer then flipped over the 7♥ river, completing Banyaniye's straight to earn the elimination.

Charity qualifier Maria Swift was one of four players who saw the 8♠J♠7♣ flop, facing a bet of 2,000 across the table.
Swift did not take long to toss out a raise to 5,000, leaving the action heads up as her opponent moved all in. Swift called and the hands were turned up.

Swift's two pair turned into a full house on the 8♦ turn, with the 6♦ river completing the board. Swift raked in the pot as her opponent hit the rail.
