Anthony Lorenz arrived today dressed as the pope, and recalled his final hand to PokerNews from the rail. Lorenz explained that he ran his full house, tens and fives, into a bigger full house of aces and fives to end his run on the opening day.
Lorenz initially wore the costume at a No Limit Pub Poker Tour Halloween event last fall, and qualified for this tournament by winning a full Vegas package in May.
The tournament director has announced the final numbers for Day 1a1, which saw a total of 532 entries.
The top 53 players will earn at least $600, while the last 27 players remaining will earn a spot in Day 2.
Bill Sandiford was all in, at risk against Jaimie Trayler on his immediate left.
Bill Sandiford: 8♠8♥
Jaimie Trayler: A♠A♦
Two other players at the table commented that they had folded pocket pairs, and Trayler would have collected their chips as well after improving to a set on the 6♦J♦4♣7♦A♥ runout.
That sent Sandiford to the rail, wishing the table good luck as Trayler collected the pot.
