Taffaro Can't Hang On; Hand-For-Hand Begins

Level 15 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Ken Taffaro on Day 1a
Ken Taffaro on Day 1a

Ken Taffaro started the day as the shortest stack in the tournament and found himself unable to drum up anything in the early rounds of play on the day, leaving him with 16,000 going into the big blind. Nearly one-third of that went to his ante and he committed the rest when Tyler Phillips raised in the hijack and action folded to him.

Ken Taffaro: {9-Spades}{7-Clubs}
Tyler Phillips: {q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}

An ace-high runout of {2-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{3-Hearts} came to leave Phillips' queen kicker best and Taffaro was sent out in 54th place. Moments later, Phil Pompper went out in 53rd. One more elimination is now needed to reach the money and hand-for-hand play is in effect until the bubble bursts with a two-minute runoff per hand until the bubble bursts.

Kenneth Brossoit Wins Event #1 for $51,180 After 4-Way Deal

Level 15 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Kenneth Brossoit

While PokerNews is offering live updates from this Main Event, there have been several other side events playing out this past week at the 2021 bestbet Jacksonville Spring Series.

Event #1: $560 No-Limit Hold'em attracted a field of 741 entries, one-upping its identical Winter Open counterpart from this past January's 592 runners by more than 25%.

A total prize pool of $363,101 was paid out to the top 94 players, and players such as Ronald Sewell (40th - $1,722), Wendy Lu (34th - $1,722), and Jack Sumner (11th - $5,159) made it into the money but were eliminated before the final table. With nine left, Day 1c chip leader Eddy Mroczkowski bubbled the final table ($6,463), and the remaining eight players headed over to the bestbet LIVE featured table to play under the lights for the live-streamed final table.

One by one, Kobzyev Kyrylo, Conrad Lau III, Gloria Jackson, and Bryan Brozman were eliminated. The final four players then agreed to a deal with Kenneth Brossoit of Charleston, SC earning the top prize and first bestbet Jacksonville trophy of the series.

Kelly Joe "Back In It"

Level 14 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Kelly Joe Andrews on Day 1
Kelly Joe Andrews on Day 1

Kelly Joe Andrews open-jammed for 43,000 in the hijack and received a call from Dom Mosley in the cutoff. Aaron Pinson folded {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} face-up in the big blind.

Kelly Joe Andrews: {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}
Dom Mosley: {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}

Andrews picked up flush outs to sweat on the flop {9-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} but the turn {8-Hearts} and river {10-Hearts} were clean to score him the double.

"We're back in it!" exclaimed Andrews, clapping his hands as he did so.

Welcome To Day 2 of the 2021 bestbet Jacksonville Spring Series $2,500 Main Event

2021 Spring Series Main Event Trophy
2021 Spring Series Main Event Trophy

The stage has been set for Day 2 of the 2021 bestbet Jacksonville Spring Series $2,500 Main Event Sunday with 54 players set to return to play down to a winner and compete for the $180,986 that sits up top.

Kyle Cartwright will lead the field into the day after finishing Saturday's Day 1b with the top stack of 490,000. Cartwright is no stranger to the big stage with more than $2.3 million in lifetime earnings, almost $2 million of which is from WSOP events, that also include winning a bracelet and eight circuit rings.

Day 1a chip leader Nick Raio (448,000) sits behind Cartwright in the counts with Johnny Landreth (410,000) and Jermaine "Lion" Gerlin (401,000) also entering the day with stacks above 400,000. Anthony Askey (387,000) rounds out the top five with January's Winter Open Main Event 10th place finisher Dustin Holladay (341,000) just outside and looking to make another strong showing as well.

Plenty more competition sits all throughout the leader board with players like Hal Rotholz (234,000), James Calderaro (201,000), and David Jackson (140,000) in the middle of the pack and others such as Justin Zaki (116,000) and Byron Kaverman (110,000) further down the counts.

Play begins on the effective bubble just three positions away from the money. Some of the shortest stacks in Jack Sumner (61,000), Filipp Khavin (57,000), John Gorsuch (51,000) and Ken Taffaro (41,000) certainly have their work cut out for them, but with Day 1's hard stop coming 10 minutes early they will all have 10 minutes in Level 14 (2,000/4,000/4,000) before the big blind is raised by 25% for the following level. As such, even the shortest stack entering the day has 10 big blinds, meaning a likely slow start to the afternoon until the bubble bursts.

Cards are in the air at noon once more and the tournament will play down to a winner. Blinds will increase every 40 minutes just the same as they have to this point with 15-minute breaks every three levels and a tentative dinner break once the final table of eight has been reached. The final table will also be live-streamed on bestbet LIVE.

Who will be the one to call themselves the Main Event championship at the end of the night? Stay tuned to PokerNews to find out.
