Alex Ortiz Wins Event #3: $360 NLH With $100 Bounties

Event #3 of the 2021 bestbet Jacksonville Spring Series saw 194 entries, all of whom had a $100 bounty placed atop their heads from their $360 buy-in. The lion's share of the $58,200 prize pool was decided by heads-up chop between Alex Ortiz and Lawrence Brown, with Ortiz being declared the winner and earning $13,330 and Brown taking $8,808 for his performance.

All eight final table contestants earned at least $1,690 with the top 12 places earning at least a four-figure score. Cheryl Gruden (3rd - $6,560) was the only other player besides Ortiz and Brown to take home more than $5,000.

The top 26 places were paid in total. Richard Evans (20th - $673), Guy Caudill (14th - $921), and Rodney Turvin ($1,107) were among those on the payout list that did not make the final table.

Nick Palma was just spotted with a pile of chips in front of him nearing 100,000 and recounted a recent trial in which he took a player's stack. Palma opened to 1,500 under the gun and was called by the player on his left. Action then folded around to Jack Sumner in the big blind, who also defended.

The flop fell and Sumner checked. Palma made a continuation-bet of 2,500 and received a call from the player on his left. Sumner folded, taking action heads up to the turn and Palma checked to his opponent. The player bet 3,000, which Palma called.

The river came and Palma checked again. His opponent put in another 5,000 and Palma check-jammed on him for around 20,000 more effective. His opponent called.

Eddy Mroczkowski saw action fold to him on the button and opened to 1,500. The small blind called, as did Thad McNulty in the big blind and all three players checked through a flop of .

Action checked to Mroczkowski on the turn and he put out a bet of 2,000. The small blind folded and then McNulty check-raised to 5,200. Mroczkowski called.

The river fell and McNulty tossed in a 5K-chip. Mroczkowski went into the tank for roughly a minute and then found a fold.

"You saved yourself," said McNulty, showing for a flopped kings up. Mroczkowski smiled and acknowledged, with McNulty further adding that he saw Mroczkowski thinking about a jam and was going to call if he shoved.
