Stacks were pushed in on the river with {5-Spades}{2-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} displayed in the center of the table. Derahn Sikes was the one who was all in from the hijack against a covering opponent in the big blind.

Derahn Sikes: {j-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}
Big Blind: {a-Clubs}{2-}

The big blind had turned a wheel but was drawing to a chop at best by the river. Instead, the worst-case scenario ensued, and much to Sikes' favor he scored the double and now has close to tripled his stack in the first two hours of play.

Level 3 : 100/200, 200 ante
Ryan Snow

The board read {8-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{j-Spades} with 6,800 in the middle and action was heads up between Ryan Snow in early position and his opponent in the cutoff. Snow bet 3,000, half his remaining stack and called off the rest when his opponent announced a raise to put him all in.

Ryan Snow: {j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}
Cutoff: {a-Hearts}{9-Hearts}

Snow's opponent tapped the table upon seeing his set of jacks and reached for chips to make the pot right as the river {4-Diamonds} completed the runout. Snow is now back to 18,800.

Sewell Off to a Fast Start

Level 3 : 100/200, 200 ante
Ronnie Sewell
Ronnie Sewell

Ronnie Sewell was in the cutoff and saw his opponent in the hijack check-call bets of 4,000 on {9-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{8-Diamonds} and another 5,000 on {9-Clubs}. Both players then checked through the river {8-Spades} to take the hand to showdown.

The hijack showed {q-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} for a better two pair than what was on the board and Sewell turned over {7-Clubs}{6-Clubs} for a flopped straight, good to earn him the pot. Sewell is off to a hot start and now has over three starting stacks before the first break of the afternoon.

Khavin Gets a Quick Fold

Level 3 : 100/200, 200 ante

Filipp Khavin saw action fold to him in the hijack and opened to 500. The cutoff folded before the player on the button and both blinds called, taking postflop action four ways to a flop of {4-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{6-Spades}. The two blinds checked and Khavin continuation-bet 1,000. Only the player on the button called.

Action was then heads up to the turn {q-Spades} and Khavin checked to his opponent, who bet 2,500. Khavin called, bringing the river {9-Spades} where Khavin shoved for his last 8,900. His opponent immediately folded and Khavin took down the pot.

A Missed Draw Improves Enough to Win

Lawrence Brown in Day 1a Action
Lawrence Brown in Day 1a Action

There was a little over 3,000 in the middle on a board of {8-Hearts}{j-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{3-Spades} with heads-up action between Lawrence Brown in early position and Tyler Payne, who was in middle position. Brown checked and Payne bet 3,100, with Brown finding a call.

Brown checked the river {k-Hearts} and Payne thought for a few moments before placing one finger down onto the felt behind. Brown showed {k-Spades}{q-Spades}, with missed Broadway and backdoor flush draws that became a pair of kings on the river. Payne mucked.

"Wasn't sure if you were folding," said Payne as the dealer pushed Brown the pot.

"Uh, depends on the day," responded Brown.

Armando Figueroa Wins Event #2: $360 PLO for $9,339

The second event of the 2021 bestbet Jacksonville Spring Series was of the four-card poker variety. Event #2: $360 Pot-Limit Omaha attracted a field of 112 entries and created a prize pool of $34,160.

The top 14 players got paid, and all six who cashed but fell short of the final table were from out of state. Floridians then accounted for half of the final eight, but two of them in Fakhouri Jamil and Hyndi Khomutetsky were the first two to fall once the final table was reached.

A trio of South Carolinians in Andreas Wolfram, James Stuart, and James Hucks all busted thereafter, halving the field before Robert Satterfield went out in third. The two remaining Floridians in Jacksonville's Tammer Ilcaffas and Armando Figueroa of Lutz then played heads up for the top prize of $9,339 with Figueroa being the one to claim victory.
