Eric Afriat Eliminated in 11th Place ($63,081)

Level 23 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante
Eric Afriat
Eric Afriat

Byron Kaverman opened to 65,000 from under the gun and was called by the cutoff, Eric Afriat, and the big blind, Curt Kohlberg. The flop came {10-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{5-Spades} and Kohlberg checked. Kaverman acted quickly, betting 90,000. Afriat tossed the call out casually and after a little bit of thought Kohlberg also called.

The turn was the {5-Clubs} and Kohlberg was quick to check. After approximately 30 seconds, Kaverman made a bet of 210,000. Afriat also called, not as casually this time, as he carefully placed the chips into the center of the table. This left Afriat with just 340,000 behind. Kohlberg also came along and we had a large pot brewing.

The river was the {6-Diamonds} and again Kohlberg checked quickly. Kaverman took his time, enough so that Afriat called the clock on him even though it'd only been about two minutes. Kaverman didn't give the floor man a chance to count him down. He made a bet of 350,000. Afriat thought for a bit and then placed the last of his chips into the center of the table.

Kohlberg agonized for a bit but eventually folded. Kaverman turned over {K-Clubs}{10-Clubs} for two pair, tens and fives. Afriat mucked and said "when you got somebody's number, you got somebody's number." It was a great run for Afriat, especially after winning the WPT Seminole Hard Rock less than two weeks ago, but it ends with him being eliminated in 11th place.

They are now combining into one table and will play down until we reach the final six.

PokerNews GPI Update Episode #16: Negreanu Plummets

Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

Daniel Negreanu plummeted out of the top 10 of the Global Poker Index this week, and Rich and Eric discuss that along with a bit of shakeup in the 2014 GPI Player of the Year race.

The two also offer a little advice for the Fantasy Poker Manager game on Facebook. This week's "buy low" candidate is a very familiar face, and the "sell high" is a favorite of the duo with a very big price tag.

D'Angelo Gets Another Post-Flop Shove Through

Level 23 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante

Ryan D'Angelo raised to 60,000 in the hijack, Eric Afriat called in the big blind, and the flop fell {7-Spades}{10-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}. The WPT Seminole Hard Rock Showdown champion check-called a bet of 70,000, and the turn was the {3-Spades}.

Afriat checked, D'Angelo moved all in for 395,000, and Afriat folded.

The Psycho Ninja is Back

Level 23 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante
Curt Kohlberg
Curt Kohlberg

It was folded to Ryan D'Angelo in the small blind who raised it to 65,000. Curt Kohlberg in the big blind made it 180,000 to go. Ryan D'Angelo thought for a moment and moved all in. He was snap-called by Kohlberg and D'Angelo knew he was in trouble with his {A-Hearts}{4-Hearts}. He was indeed as Kohlberg had {J-Hearts}{J-Clubs}.

The flop came {Q-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} and D'Angelo picked up the nut flush draw to go with his Ace. The {7-Spades} on the turn changed nothing and the river would give Kohlberg a full house as it was the {J-Diamonds}.

"The psycho ninja is back," said Kohlberg and then referencing his somewhat loud hoodie added "had to represent my colors."

Hochman Doubles

Level 23 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante
Corey Hochman
Corey Hochman

Keven Stammen raised to 65,000 in the cutoff, and Corey Hochman, who had open-shoved several hands in a row, called in the big blind.

"What?" Stammen said sarcastically.

"I can play a pot once and away," Hochman returned, grinning.

The flop fell {8-Clubs}{k-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}, Hochman checked, and Stammen continued for 75,000. Hochman moved all in for exactly 300,000, and Stammen snap-called.

Stammen: {k-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Hochman: {10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}

Hochman was in rough shape, but the turn was a repeat ten - the {10-Spades} - giving him trips. The {4-Clubs} bricked off on the river, and Hochman clapped happily before apologizing for celebrating.

"No offense," Tom Dobrilovic, a fellow short stack, said after the hand. "But I was rooting against you."

You Know You're Going to Fold

Level 23 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante

Byron Kaverman opened from early position to 65,000 and Eric Afriat made it 130,000 to go from the cutoff. Kaverman made the call and the two would see a {10-Clubs}{9-Spades}{4-Clubs} flop.

Kaverman checked, Afriat bet 160,000, and Kaverman called.

The turn was the {4-Diamonds} and Kaverman checked again. Afriat made it 370,000 this time, almost half his stack, and Kaverman went into the tank. Afriat leaned forward, his lips pursed, looking directly at Kaverman. After about two minutes had passed, he called the floor for a clock. The floor gave Kaverman another minute before actually starting the count down as they determined it had not been a sufficient amount of time yet.

As they are waiting, Afriat is leaning back in his chair, looking as if he is more interested in what is on the television than what Kaverman is doing. Finally as the clock is about to wind down, Kaverman folds. Afriat looks over at him and says "you know you're going to fold so why take so much time?"

Bobby Oboodi Eliminated in 12th Place ($63,081)

Level 23 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante
Bobby Oboodi - 12th Place
Bobby Oboodi - 12th Place

After making a big river bet on an ace-high board (looked to be 300,000, or half of his stack at the time), Bobby Oboodi was called down quickly by Tom Dobrilovic. Oboodi snap-mucked his busted bluff and Dobrilovic tabled {a-}{j-} for the winner.

That hand essentially crippled an already short-stacked Oboodi, and soon after he open-jammed for his last 305,000 from the small blind.

Keven Stammen made the call from the big blind to put Oboodi at risk, tabling {a-Spades}{q-Hearts} as he did so. The race was on when Oboodi revealed {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}, and when the flop fell {j-Spades}{3-Spades}{3-Clubs} Oboodi jumped out to a head start.

Turn: {a-Clubs}

Just like that Oboodi dropped far behind the pack, needing to catch a two-out shot to cross the finish line first.

River: {3-Hearts}

Stammen outraced Oboodi and knocked him out in 12th place, while crossing the 2 million chip mark in the process.

Kaverman Takes Newfound Chips from Kohlberg

Level 23 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante
Byron Kaverman stays alive
Byron Kaverman stays alive

Tony Gregg opened for a raise to 65,000 from under the gun, and Curt Kohlberg, who just doubled through Gregg, called in the cutoff. Byron Kaverman raised to 185,000 on the button, Gregg got out of the way, and Kohlberg shoved for effectively 825,000. Kaverman called.

Kaverman: {j-Spades}{j-Hearts}
Kohlberg: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}

The {2-Clubs}{5-Spades}{10-Spades} flop didn't directly improve Kohlberg's hand, but he added two backdoor straight draws and a backdoor flush draw, and could still make a superior pair with an {a-} or a {k-}. The {4-Diamonds} on the turn kept his wheel draw alive, and ten cards in the deck could eliminate Kaverman, but the {j-Clubs} on the river wasn't one of them.

Kaverman doubled through to 1.725 million, while Kohlberg was cut back down to 1.19 million.

Curt Kohlberg Beats the Game

Level 23 : 15,000/30,000, 5,000 ante
Curt Kohlberg
Curt Kohlberg

Ryan D'Angelo opened for 70,000 from under the gun, and Curt Kohlberg flatted from the next seat over. The action folded around to Tony Gregg in the big blind, and he came along to see the flop fall {2-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{a-Hearts}.

The "End Boss" checked to D'Angelo and he did the same, prompting a bet of 175,000 from Kohlberg. Gregg then paused a beat to study the board and the pot, before sliding a raise to 550,000 forward. D'Angelo was over it and he folded quickly, but Kohlberg made his stand by moving all in for 860,000 total.

Gregg made the quick call and tabled {k-Hearts}{9-Hearts} for a flush draw, while Kohlberg showed down {a-Clubs}{q-Clubs} for top pair.

Turn: {2-Clubs}
River: {q-Spades}

Kohlberg's hand improved, Gregg's did not, and a pot of nearly 2 million was pushed to the former.
