Brian Altman

A mere 174 players out of 1,290 entries will return to the poker tables for Day 3 of the $3,500 WPT Borgata Winter Poker Open Championship in the Event Center of the Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa. The tournament featured a $3,000,000 guarantee and that was easily surpassed as a total prize pool of a whopping $4,129,290 was created with the winner walking away with an amazing first-place prize of $674,840.

Canada’s Patrick Serda is coming into Day 3 with the overall chip lead of 994,000 in chips which is worth 166 big blinds. He is on the same table as fellow Canadian Veerab Zakarian, Day 2 entry Ioannis Patsoukaris, and Olivier Busquet as the shortest stack at the table. Serda is trailed in in the chip counts is Brian Altman (923,000), Nathan Russler (914,000), Abraham Korotki (788,000), and Peter Vitantonio with 782,000 in chips.

With only 162 players getting paid, the bubble is expected to burst quite soon after the tournament has restarted. A min-cash is worth $5,886 and the Action Clock by Protection Poker will be used once the field is down to one table out of the money. Players will have 30 seconds to act on their hand. Players have been handed ten time-extension chips.

When the players return to the felt, they will continue with Level 17 which features a small blind of 3,000, big blind of 6,000, and a big blind ante of 6,000. Level duration will increase to 90 minutes per level and play will continue until there are 24 players left.

PokerNews will be there from the raise until the final hand has been dealt so follow along with the updates of the live reporting team.

Lara Eisenberg
Lara Eisenberg

Three players got to the river with a board reading {10-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{a-Clubs} and Lara Eisenberg (big blind) checked, Ari Engel checked, and Dan Sewnig (button) bet 60,000. Eisenberg flatted and Engel folded.

Sewnig tabled {k-Spades}{q-Spades} for just king-high. Eisenberg showed {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} for trip aces to take the pot.

In the third round of hand-for-hand, the board read {k-Hearts}{7-Spades}{10-Clubs}{8-Diamonds} with 176,000 in the middle already.

Fikret Kovac bet 125,000 from under the gun and Michael Morton flicked in two time extensions before announcing he was all-in for 486,000. Kovac took some time too and used one time extension before opting to fold.

Kings Good for Both Players

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Patrick Kelly
Patrick Kelly

On the fourth hand of hand-for-hand play, two of the shorter stacks on Table 13 got all their chips in the middle. When action was complete everywhere else, they tabled their hands and both had pocket kings!

The runout of {a-Spades}{10-Hearts}{7-Spades}{q-Hearts}{10-Clubs} meant that it was a chopped pot, so James Anderson (small blind) and Patrick Kelly split the big blind and ante, each picking up 6,000.

In the eighth round of hand-for-hand play, Aaron Pinson shoved from the cutoff for 111,000 and was called by Derek Marmen from the small blind while Timothy Rutherford folded his big blind.

Aaron Pinson: {9-Spades}{9-Clubs}
Derek Marmen: {a-Spades}{q-Spades}

The board ran out {a-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{8-Clubs}{10-Spades} for Marmen to hit top two pair on the flop immediately. No nine on the turn nor river as Pinson was sent to the rail as the bubble boy.

Hen Doubles Through Cunix

Level 17 : 3,000/6,000, 6,000 ante
Shawn Cunix
Shawn Cunix

In a hand that ran over into the break:

Stephen Song limped under-the-gun, then Ory Hen raised to 26,000. Alex Queen called, Galen Hall called, then Shawn Cunix jammed from the big blind. Song folded, Hen moved in for 370,000 total, Queen folded, Hall took a beat, then folded as well.

Cunix tabled {a-Spades}{k-Hearts} only to find he was crushed by Hen's {a-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}. The board ran out {j-Diamonds}{8-Spades}{6-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} and made no difference. Hen more than doubled up with the dead money in the pot.

Bianco Cracks Keeline's Aces

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Ben Bianco
Ben Bianco

All the chips went in preflop and Ben Bianco's pocket kings were way behind Ben Keeline's pocket aces, but Bianco had the bigger stack. The flop fell {j-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} and the whole room could hear Bianco yelling for a "Diamond!".

The {4-Clubs} turn card was not the card he was looking for, but the {q-Diamonds} river filled the bill. Bianco completed his flush and took the pot. Ben Keeline was sent to the payout desk, finishing 138th ($6,094).

Hoffman Rivers Lucas to Stay Alive

Wilbern Hoffman
Wilbern Hoffman

On the turn with a board reading {q-Spades}{7-Hearts}{2-Spades}{3-Hearts} Wilbern Hoffman got all-in for 240,000 against Landen Lucas. Lucas was ahead with {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds} for the set, while Hoffman's {q-Hearts}{3-Clubs} gave him two pair.

Then the {q-Diamonds} landed on the river, giving both players a full boat, but Hoffman's was bigger (queens-full) and he sank Lucas' (sevens-full).
