2017 Cash Game Festival Malta

2017 Cash Game Festival Malta
Day: 4

Raging VIP Pool Party

None of the players that headed next door to the Intercontinental Hotel for the VIP pool party have come back to the casino yet. With this in mind, we sent a scout over to see what was cooking.

We will have pictures of the event to share later. However, before that happens we learned that players are hanging in and around the pool and enjoying many drinks from the open bar. The party is scheduled to continue for a few more hours. Some of the players will head back to play cash games at the casino while many others were already talking about before they left how they were going to make it a night out on the town until the sun came up.

The hand began with Tristan Chevalier raising to €6 with {a-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} and getting a call from Dario in the big blind holding {9-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}.

Flop: {4-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}

Dario checked the flop before his opponent, who held top pair, bet for €9. Dario opted to three-bet to €21 with his straight draw and two over cards and got a call.

Dario led out for €52 after the {6-Diamonds} paired the board on the turn and got a call from Chevalier. He then barrelled off his stack with a bet for €162 after the {2-Hearts} completed the board on the river.

Chevalier tanked for several minutes. Cash Game Festival Commentator Brandon Allen joked that the clock should be called before say, "Nah, its cash games."

Chevalier eventually folded the hand giving a nice pot to his opponent. It was the second time he folded on the river in a spot he was ahead.

Pot Limit Omaha Begins

The first pot-limit Omaha table of the day just opened with stakes at €1/€2. One of the players is potentially looking for a higher stakes heads-up match in any game stating he would play anything up to €50/€100.

None of the players at that table appeared interested, but it is possible that someone else will take him up on his offer.

Are You a Chicken?

The lovely Betsafe Ambassador Monika Zukowicz has joined the commentary booth to help announce the €1/€2 no-limit hold'em feature table. She was asked by someone in the Twitch chat box (cough, Franke, cough) whether or not she was going to get involved in any prop bets when the Cash Game Festival returns to Sunny Beach, Bulgaria.

Zukowicz just visited the infamous Janar Kokk in the Polish village that Cash Game Festival Co-Founder Martin "Franke" von Zweibergk "exiled" to. Coincidentally this bet happened during the stop to Platinum Casino in Bulgaria last year.

Zukowicz implied that she was not going to take part in anything too crazy while she was in the booth. Cash Game Festival Commentator Brandon Allen found this amusing before asking Monika, "Are you a chicken?"

We'll see if Zukowicz rises to the challenge and gets involved in a crazy prop bet when the festival returns to Sunny Beach, Bulgaria on Aug 9-13.

Husband and Wife Compete at the Feature Table

Luba

The action on the €1/€2 no-limit hold'em televised feature table just began on a 20-minute delay. You can check it out through a variety of methods including by heading to the Cash Game Festival website or by clicking on the Live Stream tab in our PokerNews coverage.

Latvia's Sergey is in Seat 1. He was previously at the Cash Game Festival in Tallinn in April and wanted to visit Malta anyway since his wife is now living in Malta and they are temporarily living in different countries. He is competing against his wife, Luba, at the feature table in Seat 2.

France's Tristan Chevalier makes a return to the feature table in Seat 4. He was the big winner a couple of days ago on one of the early table streams.

Spain's Cesar Lopez Belver is making his feature table debut in Seat 6. He has played poker for five years and considers himself a professional player.

Head of Poker Nordicbet Jostein Grødum also makes a return to the feature table in Seat 7.

Meanwhile, many players are gathering for the VIP pool party, which we learned will take place on the top floor of the luxurious Intercontinental Hotel. Among the players going are Niklas Blomqvist, Andreas Karlsson, Sami Kontio and Trumulis.

Peter Cox Having a Blast at the Cash Game Festival Malta

Peter Cox
Peter Cox

United Kingdom's Peter Cox learned about the Cash Game Festival through social media and came out to Malta to see what it was all about. He was amazed by what he has seen over the past few days.

Cox shared with PokerNews, "The Cash Game Festival is a blast, I definitely want to come out for more."

The only problem with Cox coming out to more festivals could be vacation time as he is not a professional poker player, but an engineer. He shared he will try to make the next stop at Platinum Casino in Sunny Beach, Bulgaria on Aug. 9-13. If he can't make this stop, he shared that he is "hooked" on coming back for more festivals down the road.

Cox explained to PokerNews that he loves the friendly atmosphere and enjoying time with players both on and off the poker tables. His favorite table came last night when he was playing no-limit hold'em on a table that was full of drunk Norwegian players. Cox was drinking himself as well and enjoyed the camaraderie. He enjoyed even more how just about every player at the table was splashing chips around creating a fun and loose game.

The British recreational poker player also shared that he loved being on the televised feature table. He did say one of his tables was a little tight so he was able to loosen things up for the table.

Cox's adventure at the Cash Game Festival Malta is just about over as he won't be able to stay for the entire festival. That is one of the beauties about the Cash Game Festival that you can pick and choose when you want to play. While most players come for all five days, there are plenty of others that make a shorter poker adventure when visiting the many of the festival's stops.

He still has a little time to play as he just joined the fun and action-packed €1/€2 no-limit hold'em table with Michael Fletcher, Andro Loos and Brandon Allen.

What's Going on Here?

Michael Fletcher
Michael Fletcher

Cash Game Festival veteran Michael Fletcher is usually piling up the chips. However, a recent hand just left both him and Brandon Allen baffled.

Fletcher laid out a fairly large three-bet preflop and got two callers while chasing Allen out of the hand.

One of Fletcher's opponents opened with a raise on the {6-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds} flop before Fletcher jammed his stack of nearly €300 into the middle. Neither of his opponents thought too long before quickly calling him.

Opponent 1: {7-Spades}{4-Hearts}
Fletcher: {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}
Opponent 2: {a-}{k-}

After the chips were in the middle, Allen shook his head and shared with Fletcher, "Damn you are so lucky, I would have had a set."

Fletcher kept quiet as he knew his hand still wasn't completely safe. The {4-Spades} on the turn gave one of his opponents two-pair. The {5-Spades} completed the board on the river and was unable to save Fletcher after a disastrous turn card appeared for him.

As the big pot of chips was being pushed over to the opponent calling preflop with seven-four offsuit and getting it in on the flop, Fletcher was dumbfounded.

He shook his head and said, "What's going on here?"
