Dinner Break - Last Chance To Enter

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

Players are on a 40-minute dinner break until 7:02 p.m. local time. Registration will remain open until that time, at which point Day 1a's numbers will become official.

As of the dinner break, a total of 67 entries have been recorded and 23 players remain.

Brink Felts Two

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante

A five-way limped pot brought about a flop of {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} and Zach Gutierrez bet 5,000 in middle position once it became his turn to do so. Lawrence Brink called in the cutoff and then the big blind check-shoved for 38,600.

Gutierrez took some time to think about his decision and then called all in for less. As soon as he did, Brink immediately called to put both players at risk.

"Oh man, he called too? I'm dead. I was calling him (the big blind)," exclaimed Gutierrez as he turned over {a-Hearts}{4-Clubs}. His hand was behind both other players', with Brink showing {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades} and the big blind tabling {6-Clubs}{5-Hearts} for trips, putting him in prime position to more than double.

Instead, a running {2-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} gave Brink a backdoor queen-high flush, improving him to the best hand. Both pots were sent his way as his prize for scoring the double knockout.

Leitch Connects With Everything

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Brian Leitch
Brian Leitch

In a heads-up pot on a completed board of {9-Hearts}{a-Spades}{7-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{10-Hearts}, Brian Leitch saw his opponent in the hijack check and he bet 15,000 into a pot of roughly twice that amount, doing so from the cutoff. His opponent called after more than a minute in the tank. Leitch tabled {a-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}.

"Nuts," said tablemate Ted Shenefelt. The hijack nodded to confirm and then released his hand to the muck. Leitch now has over 85,000 with 20 minutes remaining before the dinner break.

Palumbo Picks Off the Bluff

Level 9 : 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Rocco Palumbo
Rocco Palumbo

Jason Welch opened in middle position and received calls from Rocco Palumbo in the cutoff and the player on the button. Welch checked the flop {6-Spades}{j-Spades}{7-Diamonds} and Palumbo took the initiative, firing a bet that only the player on the button called.

Both players checked the turn {k-Spades} and the river came {4-Clubs}. Palumbo checked again and his opponent over-bet jammed for 35,400. Palumbo thought for a bit and then found a call.

All-In Player: {a-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}
Rocco Palumbo: {j-Clubs}{5-Clubs}

Palumbo's call with second pair proved best against his opponent's ace high and he scored the pot and knockout as a result, vaulting his stack up to 172,000 in the process.

Wilkie Makes Top Two

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Steve Wilkie
Steve Wilkie

There was 11,500 in the middle on a flop of {2-Clubs}{4-Spades}{k-Spades} and Scott Horvath checked in early position, prompting a bet of 3,000 from Sheng Liu in the hijack. Steve Wilkie raised to 9,000 in the cutoff and Horvath called.

Liu got out of the two players' ways and action continued heads up to the turn {q-Clubs}, where Horvath check-called another 15,000 from Wilkie. Horvath then checked once more on the river {6-Hearts} with Wilkie checking behind to take the hand to showdown.

"Top two," announced Wilkie as he tabled {k-Clubs}{q-Spades}. Horvath showed the missed nut-flush draw with {a-Spades}{9-Spades} and Wilkie took down the pot.

Welch Lands on the Right Side of the Coin

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Jason Welch
Jason Welch

Jason Welch got his stack of 23,700 into the middle preflop in early position against Rocco Palumbo in the hijack, leaving Welch in need of winning a coin flip to stay alive.

Jason Welch: {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}
Rocco Palumbo: {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}

Welch found no real sweat on a runout of {5-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{3-Spades}{8-Hearts} and secured the double at Palumbo's expense to take him over 50,000.
