Kristoffer Skolem Leads the Pack Heading into the Final Day of the Coolbet Open Main Event

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Kristoffer Skolem
Kristoffer Skolem

The Coolbet Open €550 Main Event at Olympic Park Casino and the Hilton Park Hotel has thus far been a huge success.

The tournament attracted 368 entrants from the two opening flights with 264 advancing to Day 2. With late registration open until the first blind level of Day 2, the field ballooned to 425 entrants to generate a massive prize pool of €206,125.

First place is slated to win a whopping €50,900 with each of the 39 players advancing to the third and final day on Saturday each guaranteed a payout of €1,155.

Norway's Kristoffer Skolem is in the driver's seat to enter the final day with a huge stack of 994,000 and blinds starting off at 4,000/8,000 with an ante of 1,000. Not too far behind Skolem are Finland's Sebastian Wahl (second - 829,000) and Norway's Alen Coralic (third -707,000). Notable in the top of the standings is Dutchman Sander van Wesemael, who boasts over $700,000 in lifetime winnings. 'The Weasel', as he is affectionally known, sits in fourth with 573,000.

Ave Lepik

Day 2 ended after Estonia's Ave Lepik finished in 40th place to bubble the tournament when her ace-king didn't outflip the pocket jacks held by countrymate Jaagup Luhakooder. Both players had a set, however, Luhakooder's jacks full of deuces was better than Lepik's deuces full of aces.

Lepik didn't walk away empty-handed. The Coolbet Open is awarding an additional €30,000 in prizes in the Main Event on top of the prize pool. For bubbling the tournament, Lepik was awarded a free Coolbet Open Main Event ticket valued at €550 the next time the festival takes place in October.

Notable players to start the day but not survive were Kim Christensen, who began the day as the chip leader and Day 1a chip leader Dmitri Zatsik. Also not surviving were Coolbet founder Jan Svendsen, Carmen-Elina Vist, Jon Kyte, Espen Uhlen Jorstad, and Jussi Mattila.

The final day kicks off tomorrow at 12 p.m. with 39 hopefuls battling it out in hopes to win the first-ever Coolbet Open Main Event trophy and the €50,100 top prize.

Live streaming commentated by Andrew "Picasso" Hedley will begin once the field is trimmed down to 24 players which will be available in our coverage under the Live Stream tab.

Stay tuned at PokerNews tomorrow as we bring to you the conclusion of the Coolbet Open Main Event at Olympic Park Casino and the Hilton Park Hotel.

Coolbet Founder Jan Svendsen Eliminated

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Jan Svendsen
Jan Svendsen

Coolbet founder Jan Svendsen reentered today and lasted for a bit of time. He got it all in for around 20,000 in chips with {A-Clubs}{J-Spades} before Jari Hurri went over the top with {7-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}.

Hurri seemed surprised that Svendsen had as good of a hand as he did. However, Svendsen wound up on the wrong end of the coin flip after the board ran out {10-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{5-Spades}{5-Diamonds}.

When Martin "Franke" von Zweigbergk found out Svendsen busted the tournament, he seemed like he won a bet.

There as a bet listed on Coolbet about who would last the longest between Franke and Svendsen with the caveat being at least one of the players had to cash for the bet to be valid.

Franke elaborated about why he seemed like he won the bet in his mind sharing that he only fired one bullet that he won in a satellite. Meanwhile, Svendsen fired at least three bullets.

Kyte Off to the ViMenn Open

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Jon Kristian Kyte
Jon Kristian Kyte

Jon Kristian Kyte just left the tournament area. On his way out, he shared with us his misfortune.

A player opened from the cut-off for 6,000. The player in the button called and Kyte jammed over the top for 72,000. The initial raiser called and the button folded.

Kyte held {8-}{8-} for a set. Normally this would be good enough for the check mark to go his way.

However, his opponent with {A-}{J-} was able to best Kyte when the board gave him a flush.

Kyte will take a couple of hours away from the tables before he returns to play for the two-day €330 ViMenn Open at 6 p.m. EEST.

Jan-Mikael Kesanen Destroys Kim Christensen

Level 12 : 1,000/2,000, 300 ante
Kim Christensen
Kim Christensen

The chip leader to start the day Kim Christensen has just left the tournament area.

We caught up with the biggest pot of the day on the turn. We learned from the table after the hand was over that it began with Christensen opening from the button and calling a three-bet from Jan-Mikael Kesanen.

Kesanen then bet after the flop came {5-Spades}{A-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} and Christensen called. At this point, we estimated the pot to already be almost 100,000 in chips.

The {2-Hearts} appeared on the turn and Kesanen bet 20,000. Christensen went into the tank for a minute or two before he raised to 55,000.

Kesanen called and the {10-Spades} completed the board on the river. Kesanen slowed down the aggression and checked. Christensen then jammed for about 100,000 and Kesanen called almost as soon as the words "all-in" left Christensen mouth.

Christensen was on a complete bluff with {q-Spades}{6-Spades} and was eliminated when Kesanen who had 105,000 remaining at the time he called turned over {a-Hearts}{9-Clubs}.

Minutes later, Kesanen was still busy piling up chips but based on the action, we estimate his stack to be at around 420,000. This hand catapulted Kesanen into the chip lead. He began the day with just 30,000 in chips after he decided to wait until Day 2 to get into the poker action in the Main Event.

No Cards for Carmen-Elina Vist

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Carmen-Elina Vist
Carmen-Elina Vist

Not a great a day for Carmen-Elina Vist who shared with PokerNews that she had "no cards" the entire day.

She entered the day with 151,300 in chips and shared she doesn't like to go into Day 2 with a big stack as it often means a bad turn of events later in the tournament.

Such was the case for Vist who is now on the rail and shared with PokerNews her story for today.

Her first table, she shared was full of what she classified as "online gamblers that like to three- and four-bet a lot."

She then moved tables and that is when frustration set in. She first explained how she was about to call a bluff on an ace-high board with pocket deuces thinking her opponent likely had king-jack.

Vist folded and said she was a bit tilted when her opponent did indeed have the king-jack.

The first break of the day then came and Vist said she needed to clear her mind so she completely left the tournament area.

When she got back things weren't any better as she lost a bit with pocket kings against ace-ten.

Then she continued to be patient. She was dealt {k-}{j-} and came along from the small blind after an opener raised. The player in the big blind also stayed in the hand.

The flop came {Q-}{10-}{7-} giving Vist and open-ended straight draw. Vist checked, the player in the big blind bet, before the opener shoved.

Vist called and the player in the big blind folded. Her remaining opponent turned over {7-}{7-} for a set. Vist was unable to get her straight and her Main Event is over.

Vist shared that she plans to take it easy before playing in the two-day €330 ViMenn Open later today at 6 p.m. EEST.

Set Over Set Sends Reigass to the Rail

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Gatis Reigass
Gatis Reigass

Latvia's Gatis Reigass was providing good spirits in the tournament area both yesterday and today. He is very friendly and chatty with all the players at his table.

Good vibes will have to come from elsewhere as Reigass confirmed as he was walking out the door that he was eliminated from the tournament in a hand he began with over 60,000 in chips.

He shared he got it all in with bottom set holding {7-}{7-} on a {k-}{9-}{7-} board. Unfortunately for him, his opponent had {9-}{9-} for middle set and he was unable to get the one remaining seven left in the deck to spike the turn and river.

From Chip Leader to Scraps

Level 10 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Kim Christensen
Kim Christensen

Day 2 has gone the opposite for Kim Christensen than Day 1b did. He entered the day as the chip leader and now is on scraps.

With the board reading {6-Spades}{k-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{8-Clubs}, Terje Bremseth jammed for 50,100. Christensen with not too much more behind called.

Bremseth: {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}
Christensen: {K-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}

The check mark was already with Bremseth with Christensen drawing dead. the {A-} completed the board on the river and Christensen was down to under 8,000 in chips.

Christensen was able to win the next hand {10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} against the {6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} held by Borge Dypvik in an all-in preflop pot to bring his stack to around 25,000 as the break was coming in.
