Iglesias Eliminated

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Steven Iglesias
Steven Iglesias

Steven Iglesias got his 24,000 stack in the middle with {k-}{k-} and was called by an opponent holding {a-}{9-}.

Iglesias was looking good to double after the {7-}{8-}{8-} came on the flop followed by the {9-} on the turn. However, the {a-} spiked the river and Iglesias was eliminated at least for now as he may decide to reenter during tomorrow's Day 1b.

Siljander Eliminates Helppi

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Mathias Siljander
Mathias Siljander

Juha Helppi was just eliminated from the tournament and shared about his demise which was later confirmed by his opponent Mathias Siljander.

Siljander opened from early position and Helppi defended from the big blind. Helppi check-called bets from his opponent after the {8-}{3-}{2-} came on the flop and after the {6-} followed on the turn. Helppi then jammed the remainder of his chips after the {8-} paired the board on the river and was called.

Helppi turned over {q-}{8-} for trips but had kicker issues and was eliminated at least for now after the Siljander turned over {k-}{8-}.

Helppi shared he won't reenter today but expects to get back into the action during tomorrow's Day 1b.

Harstad Doubles

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

Ranno Sootla checked after the {8-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{a-Spades} came on the flop. A player bet 2,500 before Nils Harstad raised to 10,000.

Sootla folded and the other player jammed for almost 60,000. Harstad snap-called for the 48,500 remaining in his stack.

Harstad turned over {j-Spades}{9-Spades} for a gutshot straight draw and a flush draw and was more or less flipping against the {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} held by his opponent.

The {2-Clubs} on the turn was a blank for Harstad but the {10-Diamonds} completed the board on the river to give him a straight and a double-up.

Bortolon Triples in an Odd Hand

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante

A player opened up for 2,000 before another player called from late position. Paolo Bortolon jammed for 14,000 from the button and got a call from Erik Salensminde. The first player that opened the hand folded and the other player called.

This is where things got a little odd. Bortolon turned over his cards which were {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}. He was asked to cover them up and the floor was called.

As he was already all-in, he stayed in the hand and his cards were turned over.

Both Bortolon's opponents checked after the {4-Spades}{j-Spades}{a-Hearts} came on the flop. Salensminde bet 10,000 after the {2-Spades} came on the turn and his opponent folded.

Salensminde's bet appeared odd to the table as he turned over {9-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} with no chance to win the hand nor there being any side pot to win.

Bortolon collected the pot after the {2-Diamonds} completed the board on the river and the tournament director opted to just give him a warning as it appeared unintentional that he exposed his cards.

Hurri Eliminated

Level 9 : 500/1,000, 1,000 ante
Jari Hurri
Jari Hurri

Jari Hurri open-jammed from early position for 14,000 and was called by Tom Rornes from the cutoff.

Jari Hurri: {a-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}
Tom Rornes: {8-Spades}{8-Hearts}

"Nice hand," Hurri said with a smile when he saw he was behind.

Hurri lost his stack after the {10-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{q-Spades}{6-Hearts}{3-Spades} on the board was unable to save him.
