Tobias Revenas Bags the Day 1a Chip Lead of the Coolbet Open Main Event

Day 1a of the Coolbet Open Main Event hosted by Olympic Park Casino and Hilton Tallinn Park was a huge success with 130 entrants ponying up the €550 buy-in.

This represents a larger turnout than the 104 entrants that participated in Day 1a of the first Coolbet Open in May and more than the 113 entrants in Day 1a of the second Coolbet Open in October. Tomorrow's action is expected to be much bigger for the second and final opening flight with many players sharing they plan to enter or in some cases re-enter the event.

Players kicked off today's deep-stacked action with 30,000 in chips and competed for nine blinds levels of 45 minutes each. Those bagging chips will enjoy an even deeper structure for Day 2 and Day 3 on May 10-11 with 60-minute blind levels.

Sweden's Tobias Revenas was easily the star of the day after bagging a huge stack of 293,500 in chips. He was among the chip leaders midway through the day after eliminating two opponents with pocket kings against ace-deuce and nine-seven of spades on a four-three-six flop with two spades.

Also bagging big stacks on Day 1a were United Kingdom's Barry Cobb (second - 171,800), Estonia's Ottomar Ladva (third - 156,300), Finland's Teemu Salminen (fourth - 145,000), and Norway's Espen Sandvik (fifth - 137,000).

These were obviously not the only players to bag chips as 64 players from the Day 1a field will advance to Day 2. Among the notable players to advance was Estonian national team ice hockey goalie Villem-Henrik Koitmaa. Koitmaa was noticeably inexperienced with several players helping him with the rules as the game went on.

"I haven't played in eight years," shared Koitmaa. "Also, I have never played for money."

Koitmaa eventually was poised as the game went on and bagged the seventh biggest stack of 113,800 in chips while also being responsible for sending Martin "Franke" von Zweigbergk to the rail.

Luck was not on Von Zweigbergk's side. He was not successful in bagging a stack despite firing five bullets into Day 1a of the Main Event.

Also having a rough go today was Coolbet Founder Jan Svendsen who didn't find a bag despite firing three bullets today.

Day 1b of the Main Event will kick off at 1 p.m. EEST tomorrow with many new players and many of the same players from today that were unable to survive.

As was the case today, the PokerNews live reporting team will be back on the floor to provide complete coverage tomorrow and beyond until a winner is declared.

Martin von Zweigbergk opened blind from under the gun for 2,000. Kaido Mikk three-bet from one seat over to 6,000. Villem-Henrik Koitmaa, who is the goalie on the Estonian national ice hockey team, called from the small blind and Von Zweigbergk also called to complete the action.

Von Zweigbergk open-jammed after the {4-}{5-}{2-} came on the flop. Mikk folded and Koitmaa made the hero call with {a-}{j-}. Bricks came on the turn and river and Von Zweigbergk said, "Re-enter!"

Von Zweigbergk was back two hands later and somehow drew the same exact seat he left.

Kongsgaard Gets Revenge Against Komissarov

Level 3 : 75/150, 0 ante
Jan Christoffer Kongsgaard
Jan Christoffer Kongsgaard

Jan Christian Kongsgaard was low on chips after what he shared was getting hit with a one outer by Anton Komissarov when his opponent hit a nine of the river with pocket nines and Kongsgaard also having a nine in his hand. Revenge was just served as Kongsgaard was able to win round two against Komissarov.

Komissarov opened from the cutoff to 600 and got a call from Kongsgaard in the big blind.

Kongsgaard check-raised a bet from 500 to 1,700 after the {3-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{3-Spades} came on the flop and got a call from Komissarov.

"Nines again?" asked Kongsgaard referring to the hand where his opponent took a bunch of his chips.

Kongsgaard led out for 3,750 after the {6-Diamonds} came on the turn and got a quick call from his opponent.

The {8-Diamonds} completed the board on the river and the dealer initially thought Kongsgaard checked since he was shuffling some chips close to the table.

"No, no, I will bet," said Kongsgaard before he fired out for 7,225 leaving a single blue 5,000 chip behind.

"I want to give you some of your chips back," said Komissarov before he made the call.

Kongsgaard had {7-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} for flopped trips and scooped the pot after Komissarov turned over {k-Spades}{k-Hearts} for two pair.

"I had to play that hand to get revenge," said Kongsgaard to the table and to Coolbet Open's Thomas Pasgaard Hviid who caught the tail end of the hand from the rail.

Coolbet Ambassador Joel Lindpere and Coolbet COO Anders Karlsen are among the early entrants in the field.

Lindpere is better known as Estonia's most famous footballer than for his hobby as a poker player. Before he retired he not only was a prolific player on the national team but played professionally in Europe and the United States including for the New York Red Bulls and Chicago Fire.

Meanwhile, Karlsen has found success before at the Coolbet Open with the Norwegian taking 23rd place in the inaugural Main Event last year for €1,550.

The festival is expected to attract players from all around Europe, especially from Scandinavian and Baltic countries with many already in the house last night for the Coolbet €220 WarmUp Event and to play in satellites for today's Main Event.

The first of the two opening days of the Main Event kicks off today at 1 p.m. EEST. The tournament boasts an amazing structure with players kicking off the action with 30,000 in chips and blinds increasing every 45 minutes.

Players are scheduled to play nine blind levels today and can re-enter an unlimited amount of times up until the end of the first blind level of Day 2 on May 10. Those advancing to Day 2 or buying in before the late-registration period closes will play in an even deeper structure of 60-minute blind levels. Players that survive the second day will compete for the title in one final day on May 11.

This is the third-ever Coolbet Poker festival. The inaugural festival took place in May 2018 and was a huge success both in terms of how many players attended and the fun atmosphere surrounding the event with Finland's Sebastian Wahl outlasting a field of 425 entrants in the Main Event to win the top prize of €50,100 ($60,267).

Sebastian Wahl wins first-ever Coolbet Open Main Event in May.

The event was even bigger for its second edition in October, with the 589 entrants and the €285,665 prize pool smashing a casino record for the most entrants in an international poker event. Norway's Mats Albertsen shipped the event for a massive top prize €60,510 after agreeing to a heads-up deal with countrymate Nicolai Aubert.
