After a busy day at the Chesterfield Poker Club in Tallinn, Estonia, Day 1b of the 2025 Coolbet Open €550 Main Event is in the books. Over the course of the nine levels of play, 265 entries were made, making the total entries so far stand at 422. At the end of the evening, 107 players bagged, and it was Teppo Kurvinen from Finland who filled his bag the most, ending up with 216,000 chips, or 144 big blinds at the start of Day 2.

Kurvinen is joined in the top three by fellow Finnish player Kai Tiainen, who was the only other player to amass more than seven starting stacks, and Monica Vaka from Norway. Meanwhile, Ronald Randma was the best performing hometown player, securing a seventh spot on the leaderboard with his stack of 148,000.

The 107 surviving players will combine with the 62 who did so on Day 1a on Friday, August 15, at noon local time for the second day of the three-day event. The total prize pool currently sits at €200,450 but with late registration open for one more full level on Day 2, and unlimited reentries allowed, that figure is expected to increase.

The plan for Day 2 has not yet been announced, but the field can expect a long day, as last year the Main Event played down to the final three tables before Day 2 concluded.

Whatever the plan may be for Day 2, PokerNews will be on the floor from start to finish for all your live reporting needs. Make sure to tune back in then to not miss anything from the 2025 Coolbet Open.

Erik Sonsteby made it 2,500 under the gun. Haukur Bodvarsson tossed in a call from middle position, after which Lemet Gaup moved all in for 18,700 on the button.

Sonsteby rejammed for 72,900 once it folded back to him, which put Bodvarsson into the tank. "I'm such a pussy," he eventually concluded as he folded what he claimed were queens.

Sonsteby's kicker awarded him the pot on the 103492 board, meaning Bodvarsson would have scooped a monster pot had he made the call. Meanwhile, Gaup was eliminated at the tail end of Day 1b.

Roy Tonne open-raised to 1,600 in early position. Silver Simulask flat-called in middle position before Robert Hagevik three-bet to 6,000 in the cutoff. Tonne and Simulask both called, and a 254 flop was spread.

It checked to Hagevik, who continued with a bet of 6,500. Tonne called before Simulask quickly got out of the way. Tonne continued checking on the 2 turn, prompting Hagevik to put his opponent all-in.

Tonne instantly called off his 20,000 chips, and the cards were revealed.

Felipe Barrios
Felipe Barrios

In a single-raised pot to the 436 flop, Anders Bjorkheim wagered 2,300 chips from the big blind. Felipe Barrios called on the button, and did so too when Bjorkheim sized up to 5,800 on the 8 turn.

The 6 river slowed Bjorkheim down as he checked it over to his Chilean opponent. Barrios dropped 10,000 in the middle.

"Do you like the river?" Bjorkheim asked, but his opponent did not quite understand him.

Eventually, Bjorkheim flicked in a call. Barrios tabled 63 for a full house, and Bjorkheim mucked his cards in defeat.

Gert Laanemets under the gun and Pekka Laukkanen in the neighboring seat had created a pot of 11,000 when the dealer completed the 9KK3A board. Laanemets fired a bet of 10,000, which Laukkanen verbally called before he showed A9.

Laanemets quickly tabled KQ for trip kings, and Laukkanen took two blue T-5,000 chips from his stack to pay his opponent.

Puotiniemi Wins Big Without Showdown

Level 4 : Blinds 200/400, 400 ante

John Sara made it 800 to go in the hijack. Antti-Jussi Puotiniemi then three-bet to 2,000 on the button, and Sara called. Sara quickly check-called Puotiniemi's bets of 2,800 on the 48A flop and 3,300 on the 9 turn before the 9 hit the river.

Sara suddenly led out for a massive bet of 18,000. Puotiniemi was a bit surprised, but he quickly called. Sara did not want to show his bluff as he sent his cards into the muck, and Puotiniemi followed suit, dragging the large pot to soar above two starting stacks.

Mikko Harmaa
Mikko Harmaa

Day 1b has been a busy affair so far, with the tables in the second room of the venue filling up quickly as well. On one of those tables, PLO side event winner Mikko Harmaa and Torsti Kettula were heads up on a K210 flop.

With 5,300 in the pot, Kettula bet 2,000 from the big blind, being called by Harmaa in the hijack. The Q turn slowed down Kettula, as he checked over to Harmaa. Harmaa fired a bet of 5,000, which Kettula called.

The 5 arrived on the river. Kettula checked for a second time, prompting Harmaa to move all in for about 20,000. The players played similar stacks as the table had just opened up, and Kettula went deep into thought.

After five minutes or so, Kettula decided to fold his hand, seeing the sizable pot being shipped to Harmaa.

Misto Necati

Kristin Engli raised to 600 under the gun. Thorbergur Thorarinsson called in middle position before Atte Franssila three-bet to 2,700 in the hijack. Misto Necati then cold-called in the small blind, Engli folded her cards, and Thorarinsson called again.

Three-way to the 33Q flop, Necati led out for 5,500. Thorarinsson made a quick fold, after which Franssila called. When Necati slowed down and checked the 6 turn, Franssila decided to bet 4,800.

Necati called to the 4 river, which he checked as well. Franssila put his opponent all-in for his last 7,100, but Necati saved his last chips, folding J10 for a missed flush draw.
