Asgeir Lund Leads Final 24 Players After Dominating Day 2 of Coolbet Open Main Event

Level 18 : Blinds 10,000/15,000, 15,000 ante
Asgeir Lund

After an eventful Day 2 of the 2025 Coolbet Open €550 Main Event, only 24 players remain out of the 493 total entries. They will come back to the Chesterfield Poker Club for Day 3 on Saturday, August 16, to play out the rest of the tournament, battling for the majority of the €234,175 prize pool.

Leading the field at the end of the night was Norwegian player Asgeir Lund. Lund became the first chip millionaire before the money had been reached, and continued that momentum to end up with 2,230,000, nearly 150 big blinds. If Lund continues his hot streak and walks away with the €48,400 first-place prize, he would double his total career earnings as per The Hendon Mob.

The two other players who ended with seven-figure stacks when Day 2 concluded were hometown players Kristjan Maasalu and Artur Kulanurk. The last lady standing in the field, Monica Vaka secured another top ten finish as well, placing ninth with a bag filled with 660,000 chips.

Meanwhile, Iceland's last hope is Runar Runarsson, who bagged 330,000 at the end of the night. Start-of-day chipleader Edd-Christian Gerhardsen also maneuvered through Day 2, ending with the same stack as Runnarsson after notably skipping the first three levels of the day.

Day 2 Action

Late registration was still open for the first level of the day, and no fewer than 71 entries were made during that period. Icelandic regular Steinn Karlsson and poker streamer Ylva "Jevakim" Thorsrud were among the early exits of the day, while defending champion Anders Bjorkheim could not book a repeat success, busting some ways before the money as well.

Day 1b chipleader Teppo Kurvinen knew a rough day and also finished outside of the 62 paid places, as did Scott "Pokerbrahs" Kenyon. Eventually, number eight on Sweden's all-time money list Johan Storakers was the last player to leave empty-handed, bubbling against Estonian bracelet winner Ranno Sootla.

Sootla would eventually finish in 29th for €1,275, shortly Diego Rodriguez Cantillana, who was the last player standing from a small but enthusiastic Chilean delegation, busted in 36th for €1,125. The final elimination of the night was Andre Sorm, placing 25th for €1,500 as the remaining 24 players immediately bagged up for Day 3.

The third and final day of the tournament will commence Saturday, August 16, at noon local time. The 24 survivors have already locked up €1,500, but the big pay jumps will have to wait until the final table, with everyone eyeing the five-figure payouts reserved for the top six.

All levels after will have a duration of 60 minutes, starting with Level 19: 10,000/20,000 (20,000), and the Main Event will play down to a champion on the third day. Coolbet will also stream the action live once the cards go in the air, on a 30-minute delay.

Sorm was dominated and needed a king to survive. The 3Q636 board brought him none, however, resulting in his exit in 25th place.

Play was immediately halted, and the floor announced that the remaining 24 players would bag up for the night, returning Saturday, August 16, at noon local time to finish the rest of the tournament.

Lund Knocks Out Two, Ships Seven-Figure Pot

Level 14 : Blinds 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Asgeir Lund
Asgeir Lund

Marius Enebakk moved all in for 30,000 in the cutoff. Asgeir Lund made it 60,000 on the button, which fellow big stack Jeremy Doll called in the small blind.

Doll had checked in the dark when the 8A9 flop arrived. Lund then announced an all-in bet worth more than twice the pot, covering Doll's stack of 450,000. Doll snapped him off, ensuring a new chipleader would be crowned.

Lund had flopped two pair for a big lead. Doll rooted for a club or an eight, but the turn came the 9 instead, locking up the pot for Lund with a full house.

Doll complimented his opponent's hand and play as the meaningless J rolled off on the river. Meanwhile, Lund stood up and took a few deep breaths as he could not believe he had become the first chip millionaire of the 2025 Coolbet Open Main Event.

Rasch Loses With Full House as Kaarval Keeps Building

Level 14 : Blinds 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Martin Rasch
Martin Rasch

Fredrik Kaarvall raised to 11,000 in early position. It folded to Martin Rasch in the big blind, who defended. Rasch check-called Kaarvall's bets of 13,000 on the 109J flop, and 28,000 on the 9 turn.

The 7 river was also checked by Rasch, seeing Kaarvall size down to 20,000. Rasch quickly grabbed calling chips and tossed them in the middle, quickly showing 109 for nines full of tens.

Kaarvall had better with J9, however, and his nines full of jacks won him the pot while Rasch was complimented by the table for losing the absolute minimum.
