Esfandiari Gets Picked Off

Level 10 : 1,200/2,400, 400 ante

On a {9-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{4-Spades} board, Antonio Esfandiari bet 23,300 from the small blind position. Isaac Baron, who was sitting directly to his left, thought a bit before making the call. The river was the {k-Hearts} and Esfandiari bet again, this time 51,700. Baron tanked hard as he would have to risk almost half his stack to call. Eventually he slid the chips into the middle and was relieved to hear Esfandiari say, "I missed."

Baron tabled {5-Spades}{5-Hearts}, which were good enough to win the pot. Both players now sit with about 240,000 chips.

Meyers Calls It and Hits

Brandon Meyers moved all in from under the gun for 36,700. Action was on Noah Schwartz next and he was tanking. Michael Martin folded out of turn in the next spot after accidentally not realizing the action was on Schwartz. Schwartz then made the call and play moved to Gavin Smith in the small blind. Smith reraised all in and everyone folded, including Schwartz.

Smith: {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}
Meyers: {K-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}

"Queen, ten, nine?" asked Meyers optimistically.

The dealer then granted his wish with a {Q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{9-Spades} flop. The turn was the {2-Clubs} and the river was the {A-Clubs}. Neither player held a club so the four clubs on board didn't matter. Meyers' straight allowed him to triple up as he cracked the kings of Smith.

Khan Folds to Katchalov's River Bet

Hafiz Khan check-called a bet of 17,000 from Eugene Katchalov on the {8-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} board before the {8-Diamonds} landed on the river and paired the board with eights. Khan checked again and Katchalov fired 42,000. Khan went into the tank for a couple of minutes before finally making what looked like being a very painful fold. He showed that he was laying down the {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades} to Katchalov.

Mercier Doubles Through Mackey

We caught the action on a {10-Clubs}{3-Spades}{6-Spades} flop. James Mackey check-raised Mercier's 10,400-chip bet to 26,500. Mercier called and the turn was the {7-Clubs}. Mackey bet 45,000 before Mercier moved all in for 110,700. Mackey called and revealed {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}, well behind the {3-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} of Mercier. The river was an uneventful {2-Spades} doubling up Mercier in the process.

Mackey falls to 233,000 while Mercier now has 295,000.
