New EPT Record About to be Set

Thierry van den Berg
Thierry van den Berg
Whatever happens on the bubble, a new EPT record will be set. Both Thierry van den Berg and Trond Eidsvig have already cashed three times this EPT season, both with two final tables. At least one of them is going to make it four cashes in a season, which has never been done before. Interestingly, neither of them had cashed before this season in an EPT event.

Hogbom Out in 34th

Sooner or later someone had to go, and the unlucky winner of that honor was Michael Hogbom -- a PokerStars online qualifier from Sweden. Hogbom shoved pre-flop holding {A-Spades}{J-Hearts} and was called by Dennis Petronack, who foretold the future when he said: "I think it's gonna be a race."

Indeed it was, as Petronack made the call and tabled a pocket pair of eights. The flop fell {7-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{3-Clubs} in favor of Hogbom, but a fateful {8-Spades} on the turn cemented the hand for Petronack, as Hogbom was left drawing dead.

We're now just one elimination away from the money... stay tuned!

Double Double

With 34 players remaining -- just two away from the money -- every all-in and call situation attracts a stampede of journalists and spectators, each hoping to catch a glimpse of the next elimination hand, which would bring us to the official money bubble.

So far, there have been at least five "all-in and call" moments and each time the all-in player has lived to see another flop.

Most recently, Antonio Battisti doubled through Dennis Petronack when his {A-Diamonds}{J-Spades} held up against Petronack's {Q-Clubs}{9-Clubs}.

A few moments later, PokerStars online qualifier Sebastian Ruthenberg doubled through Fredrik Haugen after his pocket jacks held against Haugen's {A-Clubs}{7-Hearts}.

Andreas Hagen Likes Ladies

Andreas Hagen thought he was going out virtually on the bubble when he got all in pre-flop with queens against Giuseppe Caciolo's aces. However fortune was to favour Andreas as he flopped a straight draw when it came down {9-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{10-Clubs} then the {K-Hearts} completed the straight. It was not over yet, as Giuseppe had the {A-Hearts} in his hand and a heart on the river would swing the pot his way. Unfortunately for Giuseppe it was the {2-Clubs} which fell on the river to ship a much-needed 75,000 pot Andreas Hagen's way.

Corral Doubles Through Black

A short-stacked Raul Paez Corral moved all in from the button for his last 12,600 and was called immediately Andy Black in the big blind:

Corral: {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}
Black: {5-Spades}{5-Hearts}

The board ran out {J-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{2-Spades}{6-Clubs} giving Corral aces up and over 26,000 worth of new chips.

“F**kin’ aces . . . unbelievable,” Black said after the hand. “Why couldn’t you have A-K there?”

"King-Six Any Good?"

A maniacally aggressive Andy Bloch made it 9,000 to go from early position and Mehdi Ouakhir, sitting to Andy’s immediate left, was the lone caller. The flop came {4-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} and Andy immediately fired a 20,000 bet, which amounted to most of Mehdi’s stack. Ouakhir laid it down and Andy rolled over K-6 offsuit, asking, “Is king-six any good? No fear . . . Who cares about the bubble? Keep the bubble going!”

Andy’s aggressive bubble play has hoisted him back up towards the 100,000 mark in chips.

Anton Smolyanskiy Eliminated

Kenneth Hicks Jr makes it 8,000 from mid-position. Seppo Parkkinen flat calls and then Anton Smolyanskiy moves all in for 41,200 from the big blind. Hicks quickly passes but Seppo has a full five-minute dwell before making the call with {K-Spades}{K-Clubs}, which dominates Anton's {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}. The board is {7-Hearts}{3-Spades}{2-Spades}{5-Hearts}{8-Spades} and we are one player nearer the money.
