Day 3 Concludes As Bubble Bursts

Day 3 of the EPT Warsaw has come and gone in just about 8 hours, and the 24 who escaped with their tournament lives are now guaranteed a payday at some point during in the next two days.

Play began at 12:30pm local time with 55 players still in the hunt for the money. Team PokerStars Pro Thierry Van Den Berg would be the first casualty after he was eliminated before his seat had even warmed up. Following him out the door were a number of notables, including Peter Eastgate, Mihai Manole, Sorel Mizzi, and Mel Judah.

Day 1 monster chip leader Carter Phillips also had a rough go of it on this third day. Phillips started right off sliding in the wrong direction, and he was unable to right the ship and stay afloat. Pot after pot was pushed away from the EPT Barcelona champion, and despite his best efforts, he was eliminated midway through the afternoon.

The bubble arrived and lingered for a while, with three or four short-stack double-ups. Finally, Domantas Klimciauskas and Oleksandr Vaserfirer tangled up in what would be the final hand of the day. A flop of {J-Clubs}

got Klimciauskas all in with {A-Spades}

, but Vaserfirer tabled {8-Hearts}

, and there would be no runner-runner miracle salvation for Klimciauskas.

With that final knockout, the chip bags were brought out, and the players were sent off to a late dinner. Right from the word "go", it was Jeff Sarwer's day. He's bagged up right around 1,000,000 chips to put him well out in front of the pack heading toward the final two days. We'll have official chip counts for the 24 remaining players as soon as they're made available to us.

The Bubble Boy Is...

From middle position, Domantas Klimciauskas raised to 40,000 out of his stack of 62,000. Oleksandr Vaserfirer called on the button and the two players would see the flop come {J-Clubs}

.

Klimciauskas fired 12,000, leaving himself with 10,000 behind. Vaserfirer stuck a big stack of chips in to set Klimciauskas all in. Klimciauskas made the call.

Klimciauskas tabled {A-Spades}

and was way behind the set of Vaserfirer with {8-Hearts}

.

The turn was the {4-Hearts}

and the river the {4-Spades}

, making Klimciauskas the bubble boy. He exited to the rail as Vaserfirer raked in the pot and the remaining 24 players began to shake hands and congratulate each other on making the money.

Klimciauskas Stays Alive

Alexander Debus raised to 14,000 and Domantas Klimciauskas moved all in for 19,500. Everyone else folded and Debus made the call.

Debus held {A-Diamonds}

against the {Q-Hearts}

of Klimciauskas.

The board ran out {10-Clubs}

and Klimciauskas was able to stay alive. He now has about 46,000.

Klimciauskas Crippled as Vargas Doubles

Dani Vargas raised to 20,000 and Domantas Klimciauskas called out of the big blind. The flop came down {9-Hearts}

. Klimciauskas checked and Vargas fired 40,000. Klimciauskas then moved in and Vargas quickly called.

Vargas held {K-Spades}

against Klimciauskas' {A-Hearts}

.

The turn was the {Q-Spades}

and the river the {2-Diamonds}

, not what Klimciauskas was looking for. Vargas was the all-in player, for 104,500 total on the flop. He now has about 255,000. Klimciauskas was left crippled with 24,000.

Hand By Hand We Go

With the elimination of Thomas Pettersson, the tournament is now being dealt hand for hand. The next elimination will ring in the paydays for those who survive and mark the end of play for the night.

Vitaly Lunkin came in raising first into the pot, and short-stacked Peter Hedlund showed the media that he was instantly folding {J-?}

. It would prove to be quite the fold. Thomas Pettersson moved all in a few seats over, and Lunkin made the call with the covering stack.

The news was good for the at-risk Petterson as he tabled pocket aces against Lunkin's pocket kings. The news would turn grim quickly though as the dealer added a third king for Lunkin right on the flop. The rest of the board failed to save Petterson, and he has been sent off just two spots shy of a payday.

High Rollers

While on break, we scoped out the High Rollers' event taking place in the back of the room. So far eight players have signed up and registration is still open for a couple more hours. The buy in is 50,000 PLN, or about €13,000.
