Dario Down

After building his stack quickly to more than 70,000, Dario Minieri ran into some serious difficulty midway through the third level. We returned to his table just now to find him set back to less than 30,000. A few hands later and he was down under 10,000.

He's obviously not going to sit and endure the situation. Just now came a hand in which two players limped, then a third raised to 650. The hijack and small blind both called the raise, then Minieri raised all in from the big blind for 7,925 total. With varying degrees of deliberation, all of the others folded.

Minieri is at about 11,500 now.

Lost in Translation

Harrington on Hold'em
Harrington on Hold'em
Here's what you might call a European Poker Tour-specific sight for you. We often see players reading books -- particularly poker strategy texts -- at the tables. But how about the German translation of Dan Harrington's Harrington on Hold'em, Volume II: The Endgame?

Looks like our player currently has the book open to the section "Verteidigung gegen die Continuation Bet" (defending against the continuation bet). He just looked up and tapped the table to check from the blinds, but was told there had been a bet and so folded his hand. Probably looking to read a little more before calling those preflop raises.

Is That?... Nah, Can't Be...

Gus?

We're still trying to figure out what the story is, but as the players ticked down toward the end of level three, in walked Mr. Gus Hansen himself, slowly meandering around the tournament floor. It appears to be more than just a meet-and-greet for the Dane too as he has a green players badge draped from his neck. Registration is supposedly closed for the Main Event though, so it's possible he's here for the $1,000 side event.

Okay, maybe not. It's more probable that he's just scoping out the venue for the High Roller event on Friday.

A Few Chippies

Alexander Kostritsyn - 32,000
Shaun Deeb - 63,000
John Kabbaj - 43,000
Vitaly Lunkin - 26,000
Lika Gerasimova - 28,000
Ivan Demidov - 38,000

The full list of players we're tracking can be found in the "Chip Counts" tab to the right.

Table of Death

John Kabbaj's table was just broken, and he has now joined Table 9 which has to be the toughest table in town. Just look at this layout:

Seat 1: Vlad Zhuba
Seat 2: Nicolas Levi
Seat 6: Katja Thater
Seat 8: Cristiano Guerra
Seat 9: John Kabbaj

For those of you scoring at home, that's two Team PokerStars Pros (Zhuba and Thater), one bracelet winner (Kabbaj earlier this year), and two other online pros. Everyone's holding their own over there too with between 35-40,000.

More Mayhem from Minieri

Dario Minieri
Dario Minieri
Dario Minieri continued his aggressive ways through the second level, building his stack up to 55,000. And the Italian was in action once again here at the start of Level 3, making life miserable for his tablemates.

Following a flop of {4-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{3-Spades}, a player in the blinds checked, Minieri bet, and the player called, creating a pot of about 5,500. The turn brought the {Q-Clubs}. Minieri's opponent checked, Minieri fired 3,700, then his opponent check-raised to 8,000 total.

Minieri wasted little time grabbing a handful of yellow (5000) chips, a few pinks (1000), and a couple of purple ones (500) and tossing them forward. His opponent waved his hand -- a gesture of obvious frustration -- and pushed his cards to the dealer.

Minieri showed his cards -- {7-Diamonds}{5-Spades} -- as he dragged the pot. He's up above 70,000 now.

Players are back in their seats and cards are once again in the air. We're hearing that the total number of entrants may have come up just shy of that 300 total -- details to come.
