The Shark is Extinct

Huuuuuumberto!
Huuuuuumberto!
We joined the far table just in time to see Humberto Brenes all in before the flop with his short stack and a marginal {A-Spades} {10-Spades}. He was called down by an unknown player on the button, said player tabling the crushing {K-Diamonds} {K-Hearts}.

The board ran {9-Clubs} {4-Spades} {6-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} {2-Hearts}, and the shark has been harpooned outta here.

Stelmak Plays it Slick

A player in early position opened to 1,800, and Dmitry Stelmak made a reraise to 4,100 in the next seat over. John Duthie called from the big blind, and the third player called the remainder to go three-handed to the flop.

It came {A-Clubs} {4-Clubs} {6-Hearts}, and the action checked around. The {7-Clubs} on the turn drew two more checks to Stelmak, and he slid out a delayed continuation bet of 8,500. Duthie called quickly while the third man ducked out, and it was heads up to the {J-Spades} river. Duthie checked again, and Stelmak took just a minute to think. He looked like he wanted to bet, but he eventually just smirked and checked behind.

Duthie tabled {K-Diamonds} {K-Hearts}, and Stelmak flipped over the winning {A-Hearts} {K-Hearts} to take the pot and move his way up to about 75,000.

Reynolds Takes One

When we walked up to the table, William Reynolds had all his chips in the middle and was called by both Daniel Negreanu and Ronny Kaiser.

Negreanu and Kaiser checked the {9-Spades}{6-Hearts}{a-Hearts} flop, as well as the {2-Hearts} turn, and the {6-Diamonds} river.

Reynolds takes the pot with {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}.

Woodward Doubles

Andre Akkari made it 3,000 to go preflop before Matthew Woodward made it 8,500. David "Viffer" Peat bumped it up to 15,200. Akkari folded, Woodward moved all-in, and Peat made the call.

Woodward: {A-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}
Peat: {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

The board ran out {8-Spades}{q-Clubs}{7-Spades}{6-Clubs}{6-Spades} and Woodward found the double up. He now sits around 65,000.

Schwartz Takes a Pot

On a board reading {8-Spades}{a-Hearts}{3-Spades}{5-Clubs}, Luke Schwartz checked and Harry Kaczka bet 8,600. Schwartz bumped it up to 22,000 and Kaczka moved all in. Schwartz muttered, "I can't fold," and pushed his chips in the middle.

Kaczka: {a-Clubs}{3-Clubs}
Schwartz: {a-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}

The river brought the {6-Hearts} and the chips were shipped to Schwartz.

Apologies to the Boerees

This post is specifically for Liv Boeree's mother, who we hear is very upset that we've neglected to put her daughter in the chip counts.

Ms. Boeree, your daughter is doing just fine. She's working with about 84,000 chips, and she's recently been moved to a table with Tony G and Viktor Blom. Our sincere apologies for neglecting your lovely child.

This also gives us a great excuse to put a photo of Liv in the blog, so here you go.

A Numbers Game

This installment of the EPT Grand Final High Roller event has been a resounding success. A total of 113 players have put up their €25,000, a huge increase from last year's field of 78. 8th: €85,000

With the numbers fixed firmly in their sights, the remaining 85 players are hard at work for the push towards Day 2.
