Day 3 Started

Welcome to Day 3 of the 2010 PokerStars EPT Vilamoura!

Vilamoura Casino
Vilamoura Casino

It's money day in Vilamoura! 69 players left and an unlucky 13 players will be going home with nothing more than a frown and a story of how they nearly cashed in the EPT.

Brandon Cantu, winner of two WSOP bracelets and a WPT title sits at the top of the leader board with 557,400. His aim? To become only the third man after Gavin Griffin and Roland de Wolfe to complete the 'Triple Crown' achivement of a WSOP bracelet, a WPT title and an EPT win. Can he consolidate his lead as we play into the money and down to 24 players today?

Breathing down Cantu's neck is local Portuguese, and Team PokerStars Online player, Andre Coimbra, who is currently in second in chips with 476,400. Sam Trickett and Team PokerStars Pro JP Kelly are also still in the hunt as the bubble begins to loom even as the day starts.

We'll begin at 12pm (GMT+1) so see you then!

Up And Atom!

Thomas Kremser has announced we will be playing down to 24 players today. We're already close to the bubble so like a tango it's going to be quick, quick, slow.

Feeling Keen

As the tournament progresses and the field shrinks - and perhaps as the full effects of the many delightful bars etc of Vilamoura begin to take their toll - there are fewer and fewer folks waiting to get into the casino before they open at noon. Nevertheless, these eager beavers were found clawing at the doors a half hour ago.

Life No Longer Buonanno

Antonio Buonanno opened preflop to 10,200 in late position before Ayaz Sadrudin Manji reraised to 35,000 behind him. Back to Buonanno who thought for a moment before moving all-in.

Manji now looked pained as he got a count on the stack, it was 88,900 more to him. After a minute or so of though, Manji made the call and turned over a surprisingly strong pair of {K-Diamonds} {K-Clubs} as Buonanno flipped {A-Clubs} {Q-Diamonds}.

"Uh, slowroll..." giggled Paul Foltyn as he, Sam Trickett and few of the others at the table laughed.

Buonanno wasn't laughing though as the board came {7-Hearts} {10-Hearts} {9-Diamonds} {J-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} to eliminate him.

Chidwick Down to a Single Chip, Then None

Stephen Chidwick
Stephen Chidwick

And it's not a 25k one either. He got busy preflop right from the start but was repopped first by the small blind when he had the button (he passed) and then by Filipa Cerqueira in the small blind who raised his 11k to 24k. Back to Chidwick who thought for a while, before finally pushing in 74k (he had 37k behind). When Cerqueira, after quite a think (and a sip of juice and self-count) moved in, he called her immediately as expected and showed {8-Clubs}{8-Spades} to her {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}. She stood up as the board ran out {2-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{4-Spades}{K-Clubs}{5-Clubs}, allowing herself a single loud clap and a shout of something that sounded like, "BammmBA!" as she doubled up, leaving Chidwick with one black 100 chip.

That went in next hand and was isolated by Joe Ebanks' shove - Chidwick's {4-}{6-} faced off against {J-}{Q-}. A little excitement courtesy of the {3-}{J-}{5-} flop but no straight came in and there followed his exit.

Pedro Doesn't Guedes Wish

Portuguese model and now circuit regular Pedro Guedes started the day with 237k but has not been faring too well during the first level. Just now Brandon Cantu, who seems to be acting superfast like he's already run out of Timebank took a chunk off him, calling when Guedes raised to 50k (from 18,100) on a board of {2-Clubs}{K-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}. Cantu called immediately, following it with a check, as in, said, "Callcheckdark."

The river was the {4-Hearts} and Cantu had already made his wishes clear; Guedes bet 25k and Cantu said, "Calltwopair." Guedes could only show {A-Hearts}{4-Clubs} to Cantu's {6-Hearts}{2-Hearts} and the chip leader gets richer.
