Grad Runs Bad

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 500 ante

From the way in which Lucien Cohen was carrying on, arms akimbo, standing up, shouting "NIIIIINE" and pointing at his face-up {9-Diamonds}{9-Spades}, you'd think it was his stack at risk, all in preflop. But it was Jason Grad, silent, stoic Jason Grad, who was all in with {A-Hearts}{8-Hearts}. He said not a word as the board missed his ace, and Cohen celebrated with a mighty roar as his stack received another boost.

Petter Cash

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 500 ante

Thomas Pettersson raised from the button and faced a reraise from Daniel Weinman in the small blind. Pettersson shoved for around 200,000, and after a while Weinman called.

Pettersson: {j-Spades}{j-Clubs}
Weinman: very behind with {a-Hearts}{6-Hearts}

Board: {3-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}{4-Spades}

Pettersson collected his 400,000 and looked pleased. Weinman was left with 285,000, around half what he started the level with.

Cohen Gets it Back Quietly

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 500 ante
Lucien Cohen
Lucien Cohen

Lucien Cohen was all in, but he was surprisingly quiet - the reason being that he was holding {a-Spades}{k-Clubs} and was up against Andrew Li's {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts}, a chop the most likely outcome. Duly the board ran out an uneventful {q-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{9-Spades}{6-Hearts} and Cohen sat back down with a complete lack of fist pumps, shouting and giant rats.

Rule Out Recovery for Thorsson

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 500 ante
Kristoffer Thorsson
Kristoffer Thorsson

Some river drama was the last that one-time big stack Kristoffer Thorsson will experience. It's been very entertaining watching his tables but the Thorsson movie ended with a river call all-in (130,000 in the pot, a little more than that behind) on a board of {K-Hearts}{7-Spades}{J-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{4-Spades}. His opponent Joao Studart waited patiently for a couple of minutes while he came to a decision - but Thorsson mucked and left the table when Studart showed him {4-Hearts}{4-Clubs}.

Un-Biased

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 500 ante
Tobias Reinkemeier
Tobias Reinkemeier

Tobias Reinkemeier has been eliminated, he shoved all in from the big blind over the top of Marco Leonzio's button raise and got snap-called by the Italian.

Reinkemeier: {10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}
Leonzio: {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}

"I like my chances," said the German.

The flop came {2-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{9-Hearts}.

"Not bad..." he mused. But the {A-Diamonds} came on the turn to put Leonzio back ahead.

"This is exciting isn't it?" declared Reinkemeier, "first a pair, then the ace and a flush draw..."

The {9-Spades} came on the river and Leonzio slammed his fist on the table. Reinkemeier was knocked out and another table has now been broken as a result.

Thorsson Back from the Brink

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 500 ante

Kristoffer Thorsson, whose stack was not long ago bisected by Torsten Brinkmann, has just now doubled back through him.

Thorsson: {q-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}
Brinkmann: {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades}

Board: {q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{9-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}

Thorsson is back up to 305,000, out of the danger zone for now. Remember, he came back from a 21,800 Day 2 starting stack yesterday to be second in chips this morning, so it would be a mistake to rule out another impressive recovery. Still, Thorsson is not doing nearly as well as Brinkmann - the German is still at over a million.

Bach in the Game

Level 18 : 4,000/8,000, 500 ante
Josef Bachar
Josef Bachar

The familiar cry of, "All in and call!" to alert the TV crew brought us over to Josef Bachar's table too; the Israeli was all in against Domantas Klimciauskas.

Bachar: {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades}
Klimciauskas: {k-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}

While they were waiting for the TV crew to do their thing, Daniel Weinman told Klimciauskas, "You don't lose many of these." This would be one of the few, though.

Board: {7-Hearts}{a-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}

Bachar doubled up to 300,000 with Ran Azor providing commentary in Hebrew all the way down the board for those in the know. Klimciauskas counted out the call and didn't seem particularly bothered - he's still at 885,000 after that.
