Mattern Crushed By Runner-Runner

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

French Team PokerStars Pro has just seen his already quite short stack decimated after Ville Salmi hit an unlikely runner-runner straight.

Mattern raised preflop to 3,700 from early position and the action folded to Salmi in the small blind. He stack all of his remaining chips into a single tower and moved them forwards as an all in bet. The big blind quickly folded but Mattern was not going anywhere. "How much you have?" he asked, "About 12?" Salmi nodded and Mattern said, "I call."

Mattern turned over {9-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} and was in a coinflip against the {K-Spades}{10-Hearts} of Salmi. The {9-Clubs}{5-Spades}{A-Clubs} flop improved Mattern to a set but when his delight soon turned to anguish as the turn and river were the {j-Diamonds} and {q-Spades} respectively, giving Salmi a winning straight.

Mattern is now nursing an even shorter stack of around 12,000 whilst Salmi climbs to close to 28,000.

Brammer Busts

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

UKIPT Season 1 leader board winner Chris Brammer is out.

He raised from early position and then four-bet when Raigo Aasmaa three-bet from the big blind. Aasmaa five-bet all-in and Brammer tank called with ace-jack. The Estonian tabled pocket kings and they held up to see his stack rise to 190,000.

Table Two

Level 12 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

European Poker Tour Awards Winner Martin Jacobson has been moved over to table two and has the chip leader Jan Sointula situated to his direct left. In the first hand after the break Jacobson raised to 3,300 from the hijack and Robert Brofeldt made the call. The flop was {q-Clubs} {10-Diamonds} {k-Spades} and a very confident looking c-bet of 3,200 won the pot for the Swede who now has 50,000.

Markus Lehmann raised to 3,300 under the gun and Jani Sointula called two seats to his left before Konstantinos Meliopoulos made the squeeze pumping it up to 11,000. Everyone folded back around to Lehmann who made a four-bet of 26,000 (he started the hand with 120,000). Sointula asked him for a count and had a deep think before moving all-in and both players quickly folded their hands.

Cristianoooooooo

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 100 ante

Cristiano Blanco is down to 10,500 chips after doubling-up EPT Mixed Game POY Matthew Ashton.

We picked up the action on the turn when the board read {k-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}. Ashton led for 12,000 and called all-in for 36,500 when Blaco shoved.

Blanco tabled {q-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} but was drawing dead to the Brit's {k-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} for top set and redraw to the bigger flush. The river came and went and Blanco was left deep in it.

Eames Put to the Test - Pass!

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 100 ante
John Eames makes two great calls with ace high
John Eames makes two great calls with ace high

John Eames raised on the button making it 2,500 to play and Anatoly Gurtovoy defended his big blind. Both players checked the flop of {9-Hearts} {5-Diamonds} {8-Clubs} before Gurtovoy led the turn of {4-Clubs} with a 2,500 bet. Eames had a slight pause before making the call and the dealer gave us the {j-Hearts} river. Gurtovoy again led and this time his bet was a little bit more considerable when he made it 6,800 and Eames started to have a little think. He looked at his opponent, frowned a lot, snapped back his cards for a second glance and made the call.

"Your good," Gurtovoy said through his facial expressions alone.

Eames{a-Hearts} {10-Hearts}
Gurtovoy{k-Clubs} {6-Diamonds}

Eames ace high was good enough.

"Did you consider moving in just to be sure?" JP Kelly asked.

"Nah, I gave that idea up a while ago," replied Eames who now has 40,000

Berg Doubles Up In Unconventional Fashion

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 100 ante

Team PokerStars Online Pro Anders "Donald" Berg has just doubled up in a rather unconventional hand. Lauri Meidla opened the betting to 3,500 from early position, which was the first non-standard play as the raise was quite large by the table's standards. Sam El Sayed called but when the action folded to Berg in late position he raised to 22,000 leaving himself just 5,700 behind.

The action folded back around to Meidla and he decided to flat call! El Sayed folded but accidentally revealed the {A-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} he was passing to the dealer. Once the confusion this cause subsided the dealer put out the {j-Hearts}{6-Spades}{9-Diamonds} flop. Meidla bet enough to put Berg all in and he instantly called.

Meidla: {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}
Berg: {j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}

Berg had flopped a set and was a huge favourite to double up, around a 96% favourite. The turn was the {4-Clubs} and the river the {10-Clubs} and Berg doubled up.

Flush to Being Flushed

Level 11 : 600/1,200, 100 ante

Friend of PokerStars Pierre Neuville is out after getting very unlucky in a hand against Robert Brofeldt.

There was betting on the flop and turn before Neuville bet his last 15,000 on the river. The final board read {q-Diamonds}{a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}[x].

Neuville tabled {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for a flopped flush but Brofeldt tabled {k-Diamonds}{10-Spades} for a turned, bigger flush.
