Earlier today John Eames was telling us that he had a good feeling about this tournament, and it seems his intuition was right because he is our current chip leader. Eames told us that he won the bulk of his chips when he tripled up holding . The man from Southport flopped a straight on a flop of and ended up all-in three ways against and . The turn and river were kind to Eames and he now has 145,000.
Royston Drenthe will probably be on a plane back to Liverpool to re-join his Everton team mates after he busted.
The news of his exit came to us from Mike McDonald via Frank Op de Woerd. There was an under-the-gun open that Drenthe called holding pocket sevens. The flop fell and the action went bet, raise, all-in, call. His opponent had for a straight. That must've hurt like a football to the groin.
Nicolas Chouity looked to the heavens (other afterlife options are available) after he checked the river in a hand versus Ville Wahlbeck and the Finn check back.
Chouity, the champion here from two years ago, opened to 850 and was called by the Team PokerStars Pro and both blind players. The flop came and Chouity led for 1,400 and was only called by Wahlbeck.
The turn appeared as and Chouity's 2,700 bet was called once more to head to the [8]h river where both players checked. Chouity opened for the nut flush. Wahlbek mucked.
"It's a safe check," piped in Scott Seiver, "Maybe he had quads," he continued to stir whilst giggling.
This time Eames opened with and came under fire when a player off a 19,000 stack three-bet him for 2,500. Eames decided to go with his hand and four-bet to 5,000 expecting a shove. The shove didn't arrive because his opponent just called and so they headed to the flop.
Flop:
Eames decided that this was good enough and put his opponent all-in, who duly called with the monstrous . The turn and river didn't help the hand and Eames stretched his lead at the top to 175,000
