Gurtovoy Runs Out of Time

Anatoly Gurtovoy on Day 1
Anatoly Gurtovoy on Day 1

With around 450,000 in the pot and a board reading {Q-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}, Mike "Timex" McDonald checked over to Anatoly Gurtovoy, who fired out 300,000. McDonald thought for a few moments before moving all in, and Gurtovoy quickly called off for over a million.

Showdown
Gurtovoy: {J-Clubs}{10-Clubs}
McDonald: {10-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}

"Unbelievable," Gurtovoy said upon discovering his opponent's flush had him and his straight drawing dead. The {8-Spades} was run out on the river for good measure, and a flabbergasted Gurtovoy exited the tournament floor in 12th place.

Alvarado Shoves

Level 15 : 12,000/24,000, 3,000 ante
JC Alvarado
JC Alvarado

On the {2-} {6-} {A-Diamonds} board JC Alvarado bet 360,000 and Adam Smith made the call. The turn brought {J-Diamonds} and after thinking about it for a while Alvarado pushed his entire stack into the middle. Smith looked like he was going to call the bet, but eventually he mucked the hand.

O'Dwyer Done and Dusted

Steve O'Dwyer on Day 1.
Steve O'Dwyer on Day 1.

Steve O'Dwyer began the day as the big chip leader after rebuying on Day 1, but he was unable to carryover his momentum to Day 2; in fact, the Communications graduate from Pennsylvania, who has finished runner-up in the EPT London Main Event and in the EPT Campione €10,000 event, was stuck in reverse the entire day.

In a recent hand, action folded around to O'Dwyer on the button and he moved all in for a little over 300K. Artem Litvinov was in the big blind and opted to call off for 273K.

Showdown
Litvinov: {A-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}
O'Dwyer: {10-}{10-}

The {9-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} flop was kind to O'Dwyer, so much so that Litvinov got up and prepared to leave. The dealer then burned and turned the {A-Hearts}. "Ace?" Litvinov asked with renewed hope. Sure enough, the bullet gave him the lead, while the {6-Hearts} river gave him the double.

Left with just 45,000, O'Dwyer shoved when action folded to him in the cutoff on the very next hand. JC Alvarado isolated on the button, both blinds folded, and the cards were turned up:

Showdown
Alvarado: {7-}{7-}
O'Dwyer: {A-Spades}{4-Hearts}

This time it was O'Dwyer who was looking for an ace, but he would be left wanting as the board ran out an uneventful {9-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{10-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}. With that, the start-of-the-day chip leader was sent home shy of the money in 13th place.

Gurtovoy Busts Chartier

Action folded to Anatoly Gurtovoy in the small blind and he raised to put Sam Chartier all in. Chartier called all in for 207,000 with the {K-Hearts}{J-Hearts} and was up against Gurtovoy's {A-Clubs}{7-Spades}.

The flop came down {J-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{3-Spades} and both players hit a pair, with Chartier's pair of jacks being best.

The turn was the {6-Hearts} and Chartier stayed in front, even picking up a backdoor flush draw to take some outs away from Gurtovoy.

The river was a miracle for Gurtovoy as the {7-Clubs} hit and gave him trip sevens. He won the hand to eliminate Chartier in 14th place.

Shakerchi Wins with Eights

Level 15 : 12,000/24,000, 3,000 ante
Talal Shakerchi
Talal Shakerchi

Just after the dinner break one of the hands at the secondary feature table went all the way to the showdown. Anatoly Gurtovoy raised to 52,000 on the button and Talal Shakerchi defended his big blind by making the call.

The flop went {10-Hearts} {4-Diamonds} {10-Clubs} and Gurtovoy continued for 50,000 and Shakerchi called again. Both checked the {4-Spades} turn and the {J-Clubs} river bringing the hand to showdown.

Gurtovoy flipped {Q-Clubs} {9-Clubs} and Shakerchi opened the winning pair {8-Spades} {8-Hearts} and collected the pot.

Smith Busts Reinkemeier

Tobias Reinkemeier
Tobias Reinkemeier

At the main feature table, JC Alvarado opened the hand from an early position with a raise to 45,000. Dan Smith called from the cutoff seat as did Tobias Reinkemeier from the big blind and the three went on to see the flop.

The dealer opened the {j-Diamonds} {9-Hearts} {J-Clubs}. Both Reinkemeier and Alvarado checked, but Smith didn't do the same and bet 85,000. Reinkemeier made the call and Alvarado folded his hand.

Reinkemeier checked the {6-Spades} on the turn and Smith triggered a bet of 181,000. Reinkemeier called again.

The {K-Hearts} on the river was followed by another check from Reinkemeier and Smith went in with another 384,000. The German thought about it for a while and after a minute or two shoved all in. Smith snap-called.

Reinkemeier opened {J-Spades} {9-Spades} for jacks full of nines, but Smith had even better, his {K-} {J-} proved for a better full house and eliminated Reinkemeier from the tournament.

Jetten Doubles Through McDonald

After Mike McDonald raised to 44,000 from under the gun, action folded over a few spots to Peter Jetten and he reraised all in for 374,000. Everyone passed back over to McDonald and he quickly called with the {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}. Jetten was dominated with the {A-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}.

The flop, turn and river ran out {Q-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{2-Spades}{6-Clubs} and Jetten spiked a queen to double up. He moved to 800,000 while McDonald dropped to 2.5 million.
