It's already Day 4 here at the Main Event of the opening festival of Season 9 on the European Poker Tour. The plan for today from inside the Casino Barcelona is to play from 61 players down to 24.
The field is still absolutely stacked with talent and back story so today should be thrilling, and will probably be our shortest day of the week. We have former winners in the shape of Zimnan Ziyard and Roberto Romanello, and we have former runner-ups in Lucille Cailly and John Juanda.
Team PokerStars are still being represented by Fatima Moreira de Melo and Matthias De Meulder. Moreira De Melo is looking to make her first EPT final table and comes back with a top-five stack, but De Meulder has the second shortest stack and needs a lot of help.
We also have the talented Ilari Sahamies, Jonathan Karamalikis, Morten Mortensen, Eddie Tasbas, Ben Jackson, and Ilan Boujenah to look out for.
Join us back here at 12:00 PM CET when the action will kick off again.
Level: 20
Blinds: 5,000/10,000
Ante: 1,000
Lucille Cailly was caught bluffing by Joni Jouhkimainen on one of the first hands of the day.
The two were battling in the blinds and when we caught up with the action the turn was out to leave a board. Cailly led for 43,000 from the small blind and Jouhkimainen called from the big blind.
The river came as and and Cailly went for it again with a 53,000 bet. She didn't have to wait long to find out her fate as her Finnish opponent snapped her off. She looked startled and took a moment to recover, to recover enough to slide her cards into the muck. Jouhkimainen scooped in the chips without having to show down.
Player | Chips | Progress |
---|---|---|
Lucille Cailly | 800,000 | -102,000 |
Joni Jouhkimainen | 550,000 | 115,000 |
It took little time for the first all-in hand to occur here on Day 4. It happened when short-stacked Team PokerStars Pro Matthias De Meulder was all in preflop with and racing against the of Felix Kretchmann.
The flop didn't hit De Meulder directly, but it did give him an added gut-shot straight draw to go with his overs. The turn gave the Belgian counterfeits outs, but the river would completely miss him. With that, De Meulder exited the tournament floor and left Fatima Moreira de Melo as the last Team PokerStars Pros remaining.

Felix Kretchmann | 980,000 | 113,000 |

Roberto Fernandez went for an early all-in with his super short stack of just 27,000 and was called by Felix Kretchmann on the button. Fernandez flipped and needed help from the board as Kretchmann was in the lead with .
The dealer flopped and Fernandez was still on the verge of elimination. The looked good for Kretchmann, but Fernandez caught the on the river saving his tournament life. However, with just over six big blinds in his stack, Fernandez is still at risk of busting early today.

Felix Kretchmann | 840,000 | -140,000 |
Roberto Fernandez | 69,000 | 39,000 |
Action folded around to Anaras Alekberovas in the cutoff and he moved all in for 146,000. Waldemar Nowak made the call from the big blind, leaving himself just 9,000 behind, as did Guy Thomas in the small blind, and it was three-handed to the flop.
Thomas led out, Nowak called off his last 9,000, and the hands were turned up:

Nowak: |
Thomas: |
Alekberovas: |
Nowak was out in front with his kings, but the turn gave both his opponents straight draws. Wouldn't you know it, the spiked on the turn to complete the said draws and leave Nowak shaking his head. Thomas collected the small side pot, which eliminated Nowak, while Alekberovas triple up with the Main.

Guy Thomas | 850,000 | -75,000 |
Anaras Alekberovas | 450,000 | 284,000 |

We joined the action with around 127,000 already in the pot, on the board and two players, Finland's Joni Jouhkimainen in the hijack position and Bjorn Lindberg from Swedend in the cutoff seat with cards in their hands.
Both players checked the flop and the dealer opened on the turn. Jouhkimainen lead for 35,000 and Lindberg made the call. Lindberg took over on the river firing 100,000 and Jouhkimainen folded his hand.

Bjorn Lindberg | 620,000 | 162,000 |
Roberto Romanello is on the up today after beating Konstantin Streletskiy in a pot. He raised to 20,000 from under the gun and called with his Lithuanian opponent three-bet to 60,000 from the small blind.
The flop fell and Streletskiy continued for 65,000. Call. The turn and river were checked through and Streletskiy opened . It was no good though as Romanello tabled .
As this hand was happening Yuri Gully was being eliminated on the neighbouring table. He ran pocket queens into the pocket aces of Ugnius Simelionis. Ouch.
