Yesterday, the inaugural Main Event of European Poker Tour Season 9 kicked off here at the Casino de Barcelona in beautiful Barcelona, Spain. Both the Estrellas Main Event and the Super High Roller final tables concluded yesterday, but the big story was the large turnout of 403 players for Day 1a of the Main Event. Today, approximately 600 players are expected to take to the felt, bringing the total number of entrants near four digits!
Team PokerStars Pros had varied success yesterday. Liv Boeree, Martin Hruby and Arnaud Mattern all hit the rail, while Lex Velduis (148,800) Marcin Horecki (14,200), Juan Manuel Pastor (72,400), Pius Hienz (72,400), Matthias De Meulder (29,900), Sebastian Ruthenberg (95,700), and Henrique Pinho (77,800) all advanced.
Other Day 1a eliminations included Chris Brammer, Scott Seiver, Jannick Wrang, Ben Wilinofsky, Vladimir Geshkenbein, Sorel Mizzi, Anton Wigg, Nicolas Chouity, Benny Spindler and Michael Tureniec.

Day 1b is expected to draw a whole new slew of Team Pros including Barry Greenstein, Angel Guillen, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier and Jason Mercier, just to name a few. Joining them will be an eclectic mix of amateurs and pros including Erich Kollmann, Nigel Goldman and Chris Moorman.

As we were scouring the field for notables, we happened by Tristan Wade's table with 1,800 in the pot and a board reading 



. A player in early position had checked, and Wade opted to do the same with

There have already been a few eliminations here on Day 1b, but the man with the distinction of being the first eliminated belongs to Ezequiel Macho Morcillo. We're not sure what happened, but the tournament staff has confirmed that he was the first to go.
