Rijkenberg Trips His Opponent Up

Constant Rijkenberg, the former EPT San Remo champion, found a fortunate river to help him increase his stack to 45,000.

He was in the small blind and was the only player who called Sergio Castelluccio's early position raise to 250. The flop came {6-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} and Rijkenberg check-called a 400 c-bet. The turn was the {4-Clubs} the Dutchman wasn't to be shifted as he check-called Castelluccio's 900 bet.

The final card was the {10-Diamonds} and the Italian bet 2,000 when faced with a third check. This time though he was faced with a check-raise up to 5,800. He had the look of a man who wished he had checked behind, but he still called. Rijkenberg opened {10-Clubs}{9-Hearts} for rivered trips and Castelluccio mucked.

Deeb Into The Tank

Shaun Deeb just found himself with a rather big decision for the event's first level, just as it came to a close.

He bet 1,550 into a 3,700-chip pot on a {q-Spades}{3-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{7-Spades} board only to see his heads-up opponent in the small blind bump it up to 3,550.

Deeb's response was another raise, adding another 5k, but his opponent insta-shoved, putting Deeb to a decision for his last remaining 23,000.

"I can beat some of the hands you think are the best hand," he said, going deep into the tank for a good three minutes before eventually emerging with a fold.

Deeb Gets Some Back

Shaun Deeb was among three players to see a {6-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} flop.

Daniel Alaphilippe, in the big blind, checked it to Eric Van Der Burg who bet 1,025. Deeb called, as did Alaphilippe, to see the {6-Hearts} turn. The action was similar to the flop as Van Der Burg's bet of 2,200 was called by Deeb and check-called by Alaphilippe.

The {8-Spades} hit the river and all three players checked pretty quickly. Van Der Burg mucked his hand while Deeb tabled {9-Spades}{9-Hearts}. Alaphilippe flopped the world with {5-Clubs}{3-Clubs}, but improved no further to secure the pot for Deeb.

Frankland Pays Off Finney

Mathew Frankland seemed to know he was beat by the river but couldn't find that fold button.

The action was three-way to a {4-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{k-Hearts} flop and Frankland's 625 bet was only called by Richard Finney on the button. Frankland checked the {5-Hearts} turn and called when faced with a 1,250 bet. The river fell as {6-Diamonds} and the Brit checked to face a 1,900 bet. He let out a big breath of air as he pondered his decision and then he tossed in the calling chips.

Finney tabled {6-Hearts}{8-Hearts} for a flush he made on the turn. Frankland mucked.

Archambeaud Marching

Etienne Archambeaud has jumped into a spot among the early leaders here in Deauville after a massive pot moments ago.

The action began with a 400 chip bet from Archambeaud under the gun. Petru Moraru responded with a raise, making it 1,075 from the cutoff. However, Sebastian Winkler had other ideas, four-betting it up to 2,750.

Archambeaud took his time about it, but came in with a fifth bet, making it 5,500 and after Moraru tossed his hand in the muck, Winkler six-bet it up to 11k. Archambeaud made the call and checked the {a-Spades}{k-Spades}{2-Diamonds} flop.

Winkler made it 4,500 and Archambeaud flatted, forcing the dealer to reveal the {10-Hearts} turn. Archambeaud checked again, but when Winkler made it 5,500, he shipped it in for an additional 8,100.

This sent Winkler deep into thought and after a good three minutes, Archambeaud called the clock. With just 13,800 left in his stack, Winkler folded, claiming he held ace-king as Archambeaud dragged one of the biggest pots of the early going without showdown.
