Sharp Call By Benefield; Shak Out

Level 12 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

David Benefield raised to 25,000 and he was three-bet by Dan Shak up to 75,000 in position. The action was folded back to Benefield who made the call.

The flop brought out {Q-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{5-Spades} and Benefield check-called 100,000.

On the turn the {K-Hearts} hit and Benefield checked again.

"All in," Shak announced.

Benefield did not seem happy but after about a minute he decided to make the call.

Shak: {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}
Benefield: {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}

Benefield's call was right and Shak left the tournament area when the river brought the {Q-Spades}.

Finger Wins a Gross Pot at Feature Table to Eliminate Voulgaris

Level 12 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Martin Finger
Martin Finger

A monster pot just went down at the final table that saw Haralabos Voulgaris hit the rail and Martin Finger vault toward the top of the counts.

It began when Finger opened for 25,000 from the cutoff and Voulgaris three-bet all in for 209,000 from the button. The small blind folded and then Jeff Gross, who had both players covered, asked for exact counts on both stacks before moving all in over the top. Finger snap-called off for 668,000.

Voulgaris: {j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}
Finger: {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}
Gross: {q-Hearts}{q-Spades}

"What am I supposed to do there?" Gross asked of no one in particular before letting out a few expletives. Indeed, it was a big cooler, and there would be no surprises as Finger left both his opponents drawing dead on the turn after the board ran out {4-Spades}{7-Clubs}{k-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}.

Antonius Doubles Through Shak Who Doubles Through O'Dwyer

Level 12 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

On a flop of {7-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{2-Hearts}, action exploded between Patrik Antonius and Dan Shak that resulted in the former being all in for 356,000. Antonius held the {j-Clubs}{7-Clubs}, which was looking to hold against Shak's {6-Clubs}{5-Clubs} straight draw. The {9-Clubs} turn gave both players a flush draw, though Antonius' was better. It didn't matter though, as the {K-Spades} blanked on the river to give the Finn a double.

Soon after, Antonius opened for 25,000 from the hijack and Shak shoved for 246,000. Steve O'Dwyer then moved all in over the top, Antonius folded, and the cards were tabled.

Shak: {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}
O'Dwyer: {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}

Shak was in a bad spot and seemed to know his number had been called after the {8-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{5-Spades} flop failed to help him. Fortunately for him, lady luck smiled upon him and the dealer burned and turned the {Q-Hearts}. Neither player reacted, and both remained silent after the {7-Clubs} appeared on the river.

Shakerchi Loses a Race and Then Busts

Level 12 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Talal Shakerchi
Talal Shakerchi

Talal Shakerchi busted and re-entered yesterday, but it turned out to be in vain as he had his fate repeated here on Day 2.

Shakerchi lost a good portion of his chips when Sorel Mizzi was all in preflop with {j-}{10-}. Shakerchi had him at risk with {6-}{6-}, but Mizzi managed to catch to win the race.

Not long after, Shakerchi shoved his last 72,000 from the button holding the {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts} and Patrik Antonius called him from the big blind with {k-}{7-}. The {k-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{8-Spades} flop paired Antonius, but it also gave Shakerchi an open-ended straight draw with a flush draw. The {6-Diamonds} turn didn't complete it, and neither did the {9-Spades} river. Shakerchi missed his plethora of outs and hit the rail for the second time this tournament.

Shake Jams on O'Dwyer

Level 12 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Dan Shak raised to 25,000 from the cutoff and Steve O'Dwyer three-bet from the small blind to 75,000. Shak did not waste any time and called after we saw the flop.

The flop brought {Q-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} and O'Dwyer bet out 93,000 and Shak moved all in almost immediately. O'Dwyer folded and Shak picked up this pot.

Feature Table Chip Counts

Level 12 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Juanda Knocks Out Trickett

Level 12 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Sam Trickett on Day 1
Sam Trickett on Day 1

On the feature table the action was folded to John Juanda in the small blind who raised to 196,000. Sam Trickett was seated in the big blind and he assumed that Juanda was all in with this move.

Juanda was not all in and had 79,000 chips behind, something which Trickett found out about moments after he announced a call.

The two players agreed to go all in blind because both were not folding and Juanda had Trickett covered by just 7,000 chips.

Trickett: {7-Clubs}{7-Hearts}
Juanda: {A-Hearts}{6-Hearts}

The board ran out {A-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} and Trickett was knocked out. The open spot at the table was taken by Jeff Gross and that makes for a very interesting feature table.
