Gutsy Call by Lau

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Ka Kwan Lau, a Spanish PokerStars player, bet 12,000 into Albert Daher on the turn of a board reading {8-Spades}{9-Hearts}{3-Spades}{9-Diamonds}. Daher dropped a chunk of T5000 chips over the line, enough to put Lau all in. Lau thought about it and made the call. There were gasps around the table as they saw the two hands turned over. Lau tabled {a-Clubs}{5-Spades} for the bare ace high, Daher the {j-Spades}{7-Clubs} for the gut-shot straight draw. Amazing read by Lau and a gutsy call for his tournament life. The dealer burned the last card, the {10-Spades}. Daher got there and Lau tapped the table in frustration before he wished the table good luck.

Two Birds with One Stone

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Two players were all in and at risk as PokerStars player Shannon Shorr, the big stack at the table, called their bets. Alexander Dovzhenko had {8-Diamonds}{8-Spades} and Fadhil Farag {a-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} versus the {q-Hearts}{q-Spades} of Shorr. Farag was out of his seat on the flop as the board ran out {2-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{2-Spades} to add two more victim’s chips to Shorr’s growing stack.

Denishev Three Barrels Into Selbst

Level 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Vanessa Selbst opened to 1,700 from the cutoff and Aleksandar Denishev made it 5,200 to go from the button. The blinds ditched their hands and Selbst called to see a flop.

The flop brought {4-Spades}{10-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} and Selbst checked to the raiser. Denishev continued out for 3,400 and Selbst flat called. The {5-Clubs} fell on the turn and Selbst knuckled the table again. Denishev fired a second bullet, this time for double the first - 6,800. Selbst thought for a moment, counted down her chip stack, and then opted just to call. The {Q-Hearts} brought paint to the board on the river and Selbst checked for a third time. Denishev fired 11,000 and Selbst went into the tank once again. Eventually she decided to release her cards and Denishev triumphantly slapped {K-Clubs}{7-Clubs} on the table for just king high.

He dragged in the pot and now sits around 88,000 while the PokerStars Team Pro has fallen to about 35,000.

With records to be broken it had never been more tense at the registration desk this morning as staff waited on the arrival of enough players to set a new record here in Barcelona. But as the clock ticked down, the magic number got further and further away. Or did it? The PokerStars Blog was on the scene.

Dermot Blain
Dermot Blain

Miroslav Rizov was all in with {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts} against Ireland’s Full Tilt Ambassador Dermot Blain’s {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}. They both had just over 60,000 in chips so it was a crucial hand for both of them. “I’ve got to win one flip.” said Rizov. “You’ve got to win a lot more than that.” Were the wise words from Blain. As the flop brought {7-Spades}{3-Hearts}{a-Diamonds} Blain stated the obvious, “That’s not a good start.” It didn’t get any better as the {2-Diamonds} {a-Clubs} sent Rizov packing.
