Not Katchalov's Day

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Eugene Katchalov
Eugene Katchalov

Today was not Eugene Katchalov's day and he was just knocked out with just 30 minutes on the clock. When we arrived on the scene Team Pro Theo Jorgensen said the following.

"So you were genuinely that excited?

"Yeah, I enjoy the game," Christopher Day responded as he was stacking the last of what once was Katchalov's stack.

"Can you please write in the update that I was not trying to needle or offend him?" Day asked your truly as Bryn Kenney explained to us what happened.

Day had raised preflop and Katchalov defended from the big blind. The flop brought out {9-}{6-}{2-} and Katchalov check-raised all in for around 35,000 chips. Day called with {A-}{A-} and Katchalov's {9-}{8-} did not improve. Katchalov, who finished third in EPT Barcelona Season 8 and also third in the EPT London High Roller during Season 6. It's likely that we'll see Katchalov back in action on Thursday when the High Roller starts.

Jamming With Nguyen

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Khiem Nguyen
Khiem Nguyen

Khiem Nguyen has had an amazing day and keeps applying pressure on his opponents. After a raise to 5,000 he just three-bet to 13,000 and one player folded after which Mihai Manole made it 31,000 from the small blind. The initial raiser folded and Nguyen moved all in almost right away.

Manole had 133,500 chips left behind and went into the tank for two minutes before the clock was called. Manole took another 20 seconds and then folded his cards.

Nguyen keeps raking in pots and he's still second in chips.

Vulovic Busts Sbrzesny

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

We got to the table in time to see the cards rolled over in a hand where Bodo Sbrzesny was all in and at risk before the flop for his last 50,000 against Predrag Vulovic.

Vulovic: {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}
Sbrzesny: {A-Spades}{k-Clubs}

The board ran out {Q-Spades}{7-Spades}{2-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{J-Clubs} and Sbrzesny was unable to best the pocket nines of Vulovic. He was sent packing while Vulovic added new chips to his stack which is currently sitting at about 155,000.

Joentausta Ousts Nevalainen

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Aku Joentausta put Janne Nevalainen all in for 30,000 or so on a board of {j-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{q-Spades}{9-Hearts}. Nevalainen called with {j-Spades}{10-Spades}, which trailed Joentausta's {k-Clubs}{10-Hearts}.

"Pair the board," Nevalainen requested.

The river was a brick, and Nevalainen told Joentausta how he felt about the hand in a non-english language.

Joentausta now sits with a monstrous stack of 675,000 chips.

Paur Some Sugar On Me

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Taylor Paur
Taylor Paur

Taylor Paur opened to 4,200 from under the gun plus one and received a single call from Olivier Busquet out of the big blind. The dealer fanned a flop of {A-Spades}{j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} and Busquet checked. Paur moved out a c-bet of 5,600 and Busquet stuck around.

Fourth street was the {5-Hearts} and the action went check-check. Fifth street then brought the {3-Clubs} and Busquet rapped the table for a third time. Paur checked back once more and rolled over {A-Clubs}{Q-Spades}. Busquet mucked his hand and Paur picked up the pot. He's now sporting a cool 100,000 while Busquet has fallen to approximately 170,000 in chips.

Korotkikh Wins, Korotkikh Yells

Level 14 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Mikhail Korotkikh celebrates the win
Mikhail Korotkikh celebrates the win

"YEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!" Mikhail Korotkikh, a chronic screamer as you can see here and here, yelled at the top of his lungs.

The entire tournament room fell silent, and then the players burst into laughter.

When we arrived at the table, the board read {8-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}. The Russian had {a-Clubs}{k-Hearts} sitting in front of him, and Pascal Vos had just mucked two kings.

Korotkikh doubled to 160,000 chips, while a frustrated, red-faced Vos dropped down to 156,000.

Shockingly, Korotkikh was given a one-round penalty.
