Cymbaluk Triples Up

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

Fresh from the disappointment of losing a huge pot of Lex Veldhuis, Glen Cymbaluk has just tripled up.

Cymbaluk open-shoved for 6,475 from middle position and received a call from Xavier Detournel a couple of seats to his left. The action then passed to Jack Ellwood in the blinds and he moved all-in for 19,400 in total. Detournel announced called and alll three sets of hole cards were revealed.

Cymbaluk: {Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}
Ellwood: {A-Clubs}{K-Spades}
Detournel: {A-Hearts}{Q-Spades}

Cymbaluk was in good shape to double up, (56% according to the PokerNews Poker Odds Calculator) and when the board ran out {9-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{5-Clubs} Cymbaluk tripled up to around 20,000.

Ellwood won the side pot and is now on 24,000 chips.

Peters Busts Two Players Including a Frustrated Pantaleo

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

Enver Abduraimov, Tobias Peters and Giuseppe Pantaleo were three of five players that took to a {6-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop. The action here took a long while to play out and at the end of the hand Peters had won the pot and busted both opponents. Abduraimov took his defeat well but Pantaleo didn’t.

The action was checked to Pantaleo in mid position and he bet 2,650. This bet was called in two spots including Peters. While all this was taking place Abduraimov was complaining about a moist patch in front of him. It’s not what you’re thinking! Someone must’ve spilt a drink over the table at some point and the Ukrainian was asking for more towels for soakage. Then he said as he moved all in for 12,175, “It’s too wet, maybe I just go all in and then if I but I don’t have to deal with water!”

The fifth party in the hand folded before Pantaleo moved all in as well for 21,275. There was one more fold before the final decision was on Peters. He took a long time to think, asked for the bets to be pulled in, did some calculations in his head and then said, “Let’s gamble!” as he called.

Abduraimov: {2-Clubs}{2-Hearts} for bottom set.
Pantaleo: {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} for top pair, top kicker.
Peters: {k-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for a flush draw.

The board ran out {a-Spades}{9-Diamonds} to make the Dutchman a flush. “Oy yeah!” he shouted.

Pantaleo banged his fist on the table, got up out of his chair and kicked it before he stormed off.

Akenhead Eats Some of Nacho's Chips

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

James Akenhead has been having to contend with Team PokerStars Pro Macho Barbero to his immediate left all day long, but he just came out on top of their latest clash.

Akenhed opened to 700 from the cutoff and then called when Barbero three-bet to 2,000 on the button. A flop reading {9-Hearts}{5-Spades}{7-Clubs} was initially checked by Akenhead, bet to the tune of 2,200 by Barbero and called by Akenhead.

The {J-Clubs} on the turn saw both players check, but Akenhead came out firing a 7,200 bet when the {5-Diamonds} paired the board. Barbero studied the community cards, glanced at Akenhead then folded.

Tompkins is Half the Man He Used to Be

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

Jason Tompkins is down to 15,500 chips after he paid off his neighbour's river bet.

Tompkins was in the cut-off and checked to face a turn bet of 5,525 from Fayad Ghassan that he called. The river dropped to leave a final board that read {9-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}.

The Irishman, who finished 5th at this season's San Remo stop, checked to face an 11,000 bet that he took is time to call. Ghasson opened {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} for a flush that was good as Tompkins mucked.

Barbero, Ehrhardt Clicking Buttons

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

Team PokerStars Pro Nacho Barbero raised to 800 preflop before [Removed:167] made it 2,100 behind him. Barbero then four-bet to 4,500 only for Ehrhardt to respond with his own reraise, making it 9,000.

Barbero instantly threw out 25,000 in grey 5k chips and Ehrhardt mucked equally quickly. The Argentinian showed the {7-Spades} and moved up to 38,000.

Oh My Akenhead

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante
James Akenhead
James Akenhead

James Akenhead's EPT Deauville Main Event run has come to an end prior to the dinner break, the damage being largely administered by Paul Guichard in a most unfortunate hand for the Englishman.

We came on that hand during preflop action in which Akenhead had opened with a raise, Jose "Nacho" Barbero had called, then Guichard had reraised to 3,050. It folded back to Akenhead who made it 7,550 to go, chasing Barbero. Guichard took about a minute, then reraised again to 11,100. Akenhead shoved in response, and Guichard quickly called, creating a total pot of about 75,000.

Akenhead: {A-Diamonds}{A-Spades}
Guichard: {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}

Preflop things appeared rosy for Akenhead, and in fact Guichard had already stood to leave when the flop arrived with a sickening thud — {6-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{K-Spades}! Trip kings for last year's EPT Deauville runner-up!

Guichard retook his seat to watch the {J-Clubs} turn and {7-Hearts} river, and after a count of chips it was revealed that Akenhead had but 50 chips left.

In other words, one ante.

As a further needle, Akenhead won the next hand to dectuple up to 500. (Yes, we looked up the word). But finally Akenhead busted on the following hand, making a quick exit after having to endure five more minutes following having his aces cracked.

Blain Trips Up

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

Dermot Blain has just lost some ground after running into the trips of Jonas Lauck.

Blain opened to 900 from early position, two players folded and Fabio Sperling called. Lauck called on the button so it was three-handed to the {2-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{j-Clubs} flop. Blain lead out for 1,700, Sperling folded but Lauck called.

Both players checked the arrival of the {9-Clubs} on the turn. Blain then returned to betting when the {j-Hearts} appeared on the river. Blain made it 3,300 and Lauck called.

"Ace-queen?" said Blain in a quizzical manner that suggested he knew his hand was not good.

"I have a jack," came the reply before Lauck showed {K-Spades}{J-Spades}.

Bou Habib Four-Bets Beyne

Level 6 : 200/400, 50 ante

Walid Bou Habib opened the betting by raising to 900 from the cutoff seat. Next to act was the vocal Russian Vladimir Geshkenbein. He peeked at his cards before three-betting to 2,400. With the blinds out of the way Bou Habib took back his original raise and replaced it with a four-bet worth 5,300. Geshkenbein instantly folded while sporting a wry smile on his face.
