Lakhov Does Some Maths

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Alexander Goulder opened for 11,000. Don’t worry this isn’t another Goulder post. Alexander Lakhov three-bet him to 24,000 and French PokerStars player Roman Wieviorka moved all in. Goulder tossed his cards in and Lakhov asked for a count. It was 98,000 total and having made some mental calculations Lakhov made the call with {a-Clubs}{2-Clubs} to find he was up against the {j-Hearts}{j-Spades} of Wieviorka. The board ran out {7-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{k-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{9-Spades} and Wieviorka doubled up.

Vinklarek Takes One from Alezra

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Just before the break Ondrej Vinklarek won a pot against Alain Alezra. The latter opened to 11,000 from under-the-gun and both Dmitri Holdeew (small blind) and Vinklarek (big blind) made the call. On the {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} flop Alezra bet 13,000 and Vinklarek was the only caller.

The {Q-Diamonds} fell on the turn, Alezra fired another bet, this time 16,000 and again Vinklarek made the call. The {8-Spades} river checked through and Vinklarek showed {A-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} to win the pot. Despite that hit Alezra has 557,000 and is one of the chip leaders.

Bruel the Bully

Patrick Bruel
Patrick Bruel

Since his double up Patrick Bruel has put the pedal to the metal and ratcheted up the aggression factor with two three-bets in succession. After Gaetano Dell`Aera opened to 11,000, Bruel three-bet to 40,000 and took it down.

Then on the next hand Ihar Soika made it 10,000 to play only for Bruel to raise to 32,000, back on Soika he folded and Bruel showed {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} as he took the pot. He's up to 180,000.

Bruel Doubles

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

We didn't witness the pre flop action but Patrick Bruel was all in from the big blind with {K-Spades}{Q-Hearts} for 57,000 against Gaetano Dell`Aera in late position with {K-Hearts}{5-Hearts}.

The {3-Spades}{A-Hearts}{10-Clubs} flop was good for Bruel but the {J-Clubs} worried him for a split. The {10-Hearts} was a blank however and Bruel doubled.

Isaia Doubles Through Maenpaa

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

With {8-Spades}{A-Spades}{2-Clubs}{6-Diamonds} on the table we saw Finnish player Tatu Maenpaa bet out 51,000. After some thinking Alessio Isaia made the call. The river was the {Q-Hearts} en Maenpaa announced all in. Isaia made the snap call and Maenpaa would soon get the bad news his {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} was no good. The Italian player tabled {8-Clubs}{8-Hearts} for a flopped set and extracted maximum value.

Goulder’s New Table

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Alex Goulder
Alex Goulder

Alex Goulder has moved to a new table and the two players to his left are Alexander Lakhov from Russia and Bahram Chobineh from Iran, so we thought we’d drop by and see how he was getting on with is new friends. Folded to Goulder in the small blind he raised to 10,000 and Lakhov made the call. They both checked it down to the river and with the board reading {10-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{k-Spades}{3-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} Goulder showed {10-Clubs}{7-Clubs} and the pair was good enough to take the pot. “Where are you from?” Goulder asked the Russian by way of introduction. Lakhov looked up from his i-pad, took an ear bud out and muttered something before quickly replacing it and refocusing his attention on the screen on his lap. Not very chatty then.

Goulder was on the button the next hand and a shove from the player to his right, Erkan Yildirim, won the pot. Next hand Goulder opened from the cut-off for 11,000 and won the blinds and antes. Another 11,000 from Goulder in the Hi-Jack and this time Bahram Chobineh tried his luck and called on the button. The flop was {5-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{8-Clubs} and a bet from Goulder of 15,000 saw Chobineh look once more at his cards before discarding them.

Goulder was at it again, 11,000 next hand and Roman Wieviorka decided to call from the small blind. The flop of {8-Spades}{7-Clubs}{2-Clubs} was checked. The turn card was {4-Diamonds} and Wieviorka check called a bet of 15,000 from Goulder. They both checked a river {2-Diamonds}. Wieviorka won with {a-Spades}{4-Hearts}. You can’t win them all I guess but Goulder is certainly giving it his best shot.

Victor Ilyukhin Loses a Classic Race (76th, €9,500)

Level 17 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Victor Ilyukhin has just busted from the feature table after losing a classic race against Lauri Pesonen at the feature table. The former shoved for 54,500 from the button with {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds} and Pesonen called from the small blind with {8-Spades}{8-Hearts}. That amounted to about two-thirds of Pesonen's stack.

In the commentary booth Joe Stapleton and Vicky Coren struck a €10 wager, with Stapleton taking the eights to win the race. The {6-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} board kept Pesonen in front and eliminated Ilyukhin. "That'll buy me half a drink at the hotel bar," quipped Stapleton.
