The Daily EPT10 Player of the Year Update for 4-18-14

Level 22 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante

The European Poker Tour Season 10 Player of the Year race is on, and as we've mentioned before it's a heated affair between current leader Ole Schemion and Team PokerStars Pro Vanessa Selbst, both of who are currently playing in the €10,000 High Roller.

As you know players have been accumulating points in all events throughout Season 10, regardless of the buy-in level. In addition, all of the Festival Events (Estrellas, UKIPT, Eureka, FPS, IPT) that combine with an EPT tour stop have been eligible for Player of the Year points. The winner of this season’s award will walk away with €50,000 in Main Event buy-ins, good for any PokerStars or Full Tilt sponsored event.

The Global Poker Index (GPI) points formula, which will be used to determine the EPT10 POY, is a bit complicated, but you can read about all the details here.

Here are the current top ten on the EPT10 POY Leaderboard:

Scarcella Throws It Away

Level 21 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante

Vincenzo Scarcella opened for 24,000 under the gun and Andrea Benelli three-bet to 59,000.

It folded round to Scarcella who made the call. The flop was {a-Spades}{5-Spades}{10-Clubs} and both players checked. The {k-Hearts} on the turn led Scarcella to bet out for 60,000 and Benelli made the call.

The {a-Hearts} on the river saw Scarcella check and when Benelli moved all in Scarcella threw his {j-Spades}{j-Clubs} face up on the felt in frustration.

Vincenzo Scarcella opened for 25,000 and VIcky Coren made the call from the big blind. The two players saw {4-Hearts}{9-Spades}{2-Hearts} and they both checked. The turn {j-Clubs} saw Coren lead for 40,000.

Scarcella folded and that small pot saw Coren reach over 1,000,000 chips for the first time, about 90 big blinds.

Hakim Bad Beats Salter Out of the Tournament

Level 21 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Louis Salter
Louis Salter

Jeffrey Hakim opened to 25,000 under the gun. The player in the cutoff made the call, and Louis Salter squeezed from the small blind to 76,000. Hakim shoved all in, the cutoff folded and Salter made the call.

Salter had the best hand with jacks. Hakim was in trouble holding {10-Diamonds}{10-Spades} but the board would run out pretty good for him: {Q-Clubs}{J-Clubs}{K-Hearts}{A-Spades}{3-Spades}. The set for Salter was no good, and Hakim took it down with his straight.
