Garcia Nearing the Million Mark

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Jose Carlos Garcia - Quan Zhou
Jose Carlos Garcia - Quan Zhou

Jose Carlos Garcia opened to 16,000 from the hijack and his neighbor Quan Zhou three-bet to 39,000 from the cutoff. The button and both blinds folded, Garcia made the call.

The man from Poland with the oh so Spanish name, check-called a bet of 41,000 on {K-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}. Both players checked the {9-Hearts} on the turn and the {6-Diamonds} completed the board. Garcia announced all in, effectively betting 351,000 into a pot of 179,000!

Zhou tanked long and hard, and eventually decided to fold. Garcia didn't show his overbet, he mucked it without showing anything.

There Will Be No Back-to-Back EPT Champ in Season 11

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Jean Montury
Jean Montury

Jean Montury took down the EPT Malta last month, which meant he had a chance to become the first-ever back-to-back EPT champ. Montury gave it a go here in Monaco, but his hope of doing so just came to an end.

Up at the feature table, Montury got his last 79,000 all in under the gun and watched as Muhyedine Fares, who had 81,000, moved all in a couple spots over. The rest of the players folded and the cards were turned up.

Montury: {a-Spades}{j-Clubs}
Fares: {j-Hearts}{j-Spades}

Montury's best chance at surviving was to catch an ace, but he failed to do so on the {2-Spades}{3-Clubs}{k-Clubs} flop. The {5-Hearts} turn gave Montury a wheel draw, but it didn't materialize as the {6-Hearts} blanked on the river.

Roberts, Putnam Busted

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Brian Roberts
Brian Roberts

Brian Roberts doubled up with {k-}{j-} against {k-}{10-} but still had only about 75,000. He got that in with {a-Diamonds}{k-Spades} and was called by Andrey Volkov, who held {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}. The flop came {3-Clubs}{8-Spades}{6-Hearts}.

"Not looking good," Roberts said with a smile. He missed the last two streets as well. "Good luck, gentlemen."

At another table, Patrick Putnam put his last 75,000 or so in with {a-Hearts}{7-Clubs} and got a call from Jose Carlos Garcia's {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}. The board came clean for the chip leader.

Joao Barbosa
Joao Barbosa

Former European Poker Tour Warsaw champion (2008, €367,140) Joao Barbosa has been knocked out of the tournament. He was already on the short stack, and lost the 55,000 he had left just minutes ago.

He got his last seven big blinds in the middle holding {7-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}. Vladislav Donchev looked him up holding {A-Spades}{A-Clubs}, and the board ran out {10-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{2-Spades}.

One Pair No Good For Geilich

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Ludovic Geilich
Ludovic Geilich

Ludovic Geilich check-raised Josh Prager's bet of 24,000 on a {6-Clubs}{4-Spades}{10-Diamonds} board to 55,000 which Prager subsequently called.

The turn card of the {4-Diamonds} was checked by both players and the {8-Diamonds} came on the turn. Geilich bet out 100,000 and Prager called. The British pro tabled {3-Diamonds}{3-Spades} for a single pair, but Prager had him beat with a rivered set {8-Spades}{8-Hearts}

Death by Quads

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Emin Aghayev moved all in for 70,000 in middle position and got calls from button Christopher Frank and small blind Scott Clements. The flop came {6-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}, and Clements checked. Frank bet into the dry side pot, 40,000. Clements called, then check-called another 107,000 on the {7-Clubs} turn. He checked the {10-Clubs}, and Frank checked it back.

Clements showed {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}.

Urbanovich Drowned on the River

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
Dzmitry Urbanovich
Dzmitry Urbanovich

Dzmitry Urbanovich, who is the favorite to become the EPT11 Player of the Year, was just eliminated from the feature table.

We missed the early details, but it appeared there was 107,000 in the pot and a flop of {a-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{7-Spades} when Urbanovich bet a hefty 179,000 from the big blind, leaving himself just 17,000 behind. Hady El Asmar, who was in the cutoff, made the call, and then Urbanovich got the rest of his chips in on the {10-Clubs} turn.

El Asmar: {a-Spades}{q-Hearts}
Urbanovich: {a-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}

Urbanovich, who finished runner-up in the €100,000 Super High Roller a few days back, had bet big with two pair, but ended up getting falling behind when the {Q-Clubs} spiked on the river to give El Asmar a bigger two pair. Urbanovich earned some more coveted PoY points, and we expect we'll see him back in action in tomorrow's €25,000 High Roller.

Drinan's Aces Hold to Send Ruzzi to the Rail

Level 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Connor Drinan opened for 18,000 from early position and received a call from Mustapha Kanit in the hijack. Matias Ruzzi then three-bet all in for 119,000 from the cutoff, Drinan moved all in over the top, and Kanit got out of the way.

Drinan: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}
Ruzzi: {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}

It was a cooler for Ruzzi, and the cost was his tournament life as the board ran out a clean {k-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{5-Spades}{5-Hearts}.
