Haxton's Grind is Over

Level 15 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Isaac Haxton
Isaac Haxton

After losing most of his chips against Brian Roberts, Isaac Haxton was able to spin up the short stack a bit. It didn't last long though, when the PokerStars Team Online Pro shoved from the small blind for less than 10 big blinds with the {A-}{5-}. Sean Winter called from one seat over, holding the {K-}{Q-}, and got there on the board {Q-}{10-}{9-}{3-}{5-}.

Yoon's Straight Gets Paid Off

Level 15 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

Adam Jaguscik raised to 11,000 from under the gun and Brian Yoon called on the button to see a flop of {3-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{J-Spades}. Jaguscik checked and then called a bet of Yoon before repeating the same on the {A-Clubs} turn for 32,000. The {5-Clubs} river completed the board and Jaguscik checked again.

Yoon fired 62,000 and was called to roll over {K-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts} for a straight, winning a decent pot.

Mandic's Stack is Missing

Level 15 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante

It had been a rather unkind day at the poker table for both Jason Mercier and Goran Mandic. Both were rather short-stacked as of recently and sat next to each other. Mandic open-shoved from the small blind with {J-}{9-} and Mercier called with pocket sixes. There was a nine on the flop but a six appeared right away on the turn to crush all hopes of a comeback for the Croat.

Clock Called In Kaverman Hand

Level 15 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Byron Kaverman
Byron Kaverman

The above headline comes as no surprise to anyone, as the deliberate Byron Kaverman gets the clock called on him regularly.

However, this time the clock wasn't called on Kaverman. His opponent, Igor Yaroshevskyy, did call the clock. But he called it on himself.

They were heads-up on an {a-Spades}{2-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{4-Clubs} board with about 70,000 in the pot and Kaverman all in. Yaroshevskyy held just 97,000 to Kaverman's 420,000 and was faced with a decision for his tournament life.

It took several minutes as he agonized over the decision before he called the clock on himself. His hand was declared dead 60 seconds later and Kaverman raked the pot, inching ever closer to the 500,000-chip mark in his effort to make another High Roller here in Malta, having finished ninth in the €10,000 + 200 and fifth in the €25,000 + 750.

The Kings are Ensan's Nemesis

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Hossein Ensan
Hossein Ensan

Hossein Ensan already lost a big pot earlier today with pocket kings against a smaller pair and just now the very same thing happened again. The only difference was the fact that the final straw was for his tournament life with {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds} against the {J-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} of Igor Yaroshevskyy.

The flop {8-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{8-Hearts} changed nothing but gave the Ukrainian some back door outs with hearts for a flush. The {J-Clubs} struck on the turn and now Ensan needed one of the two remaining kings in order to stay in. It wasn't meant to be, as the {5-Spades} river bricked.

No Help for Helppi

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Juha Helppi
Juha Helppi

Down to only 69,000 chips, Juha Helppi moved all in from the button and Mikita Badziakouski called from one seat over in the small blind.

Helppi: {Q-Clubs}{J-Spades}
Badziakouski: {A-Spades}{9-Hearts}

The flop {8-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} gave Badziakouski an open-ended straight draw while the {9-Diamonds} on the turn improved him to top pair, leaving helping drawing to the remaining four tens and three queens and jacks in the deck to avoid elimination. The {K-Spades} on the river was a blank and the Finn exited the competition.

Five Tables Remain

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

With 40 players left and the action being played eight-handed, the remaining hopefuls are now equally spread among the last five tables. The next balance will take place on the direct money bubble, as only 31 spots are getting a share of the prize pool.

Update on Mateos

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

[Removed:17] opened to 15,000 and Adrian Mateos three-bet to 50,000 from two seats over in the blinds, Yan called. On the flop {8-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{J-Spades}, Mateos checked and Yan bet 18,000 to get a call. Both then checked down the {4-Spades} turn and the {4-Diamonds} river to flip over {A-Diamonds}{K-Hearts} (Mateos) and {A-Spades}{10-Spades} (Yan( for a split pot.

The stack of the start-of-the-day chip leader isn't as big anymore and he even fell below average.

Wheeler Falls Off

Level 16 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Jason Wheeler
Jason Wheeler

Jason Wheeler had just opened to 13,500 and folded to a big three-bet behind.

So when he opened to 13,500 from under the gun, and Roberto Romanello cut out a 29,500-chip three-bet, he didn't look like he was folding again.

Wheeler promptly shoved and got the bad news when Romanello insta-called with {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs}.

Wheeler's chance at a third consecutive High Roller final table in Malta was riding on the thin hopes of {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} and he missed altogether on a board of {7-Spades}{6-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}.
