Bonomo Attempts to Bust Luca

Level 9 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

A short-stacked Ivan Luca moved all in for his last 48,000 from middle position and action folded all the way around to Justin Bonomo, who opted to make the call from the big blind.

Bonomo: {k-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}
Luca: {a-Spades}{4-Spades}

Luca was ahead, and that's just where he stayed as the board ran out a safe {5-Hearts}{7-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{j-Hearts}.

Winter Walks Straight Into a Straight

Level 9 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Sean Winter raised it up to 13,000 from middle position and Dzmitry Urbanovich on the button three bet to 34,000. Both blinds folded and Winter called.

The two of them checked the flop of {10-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} and the {9-Hearts} on the turn was seen for free. Winter check called a bet of 28,000 and check called another 58,000 on the {J-Spades} river.

Dzmitry Urbanovich tabled {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts} for the nuts, Winter flashed the {K-Spades} and mucked.

Kaverman Scores the Double Knock Out!

Level 9 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Ivan Luca busted
Ivan Luca busted

"What one flat can do!" Jason Wheeler said with a smile as we approached the table, just too late to catch all the action. Thankfully Wheeler told us what had happened after all was done.

Byron Kaverman opened for 14,000 under the gun and Wheeler flatted from the cutoff. Ivan Luca on the button shoved for 51,000 and small blind Jean-Noel Thorel pushed 320,000 froward. Christopher Frank folded from the big blind, and Kaverman moved over the top all in. Wheeler folded.

Byron Kaverman: {K-Diamonds}{K-Hearts}
Ivan Luca: {A-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}
Jean-Noel Thorel: {A-Clubs}{J-Spades}

The board ran out clean for Kaverman: {3-Hearts}{J-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{8-Spades}{4-Spades} and both Luca and Thorel got up from the table.

Varnell's Lasts Less Than Half a Level

Level 9 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Craig Varnell
Craig Varnell

Craig Varnell, the WPT500 ARIA champ from this past summer, was one of the players to late register before the start of play here on Day 2. As it turned out, his stay was short and not at all sweet.

In what would be his final hand, Varnell opened for 15,000 from middle position and EPT10 Grand Final champ Antonio Buonanno defended from the big blind, which brought about a flop of {5-Hearts}{2-Clubs}{2-Spades}. Buonanno checked, Varnell continued for 20,000, and Buonanno woke up with a check-raise to 50,000. Varnell proceeded to move all in for 163,000, and Buonanno snapped him off.

Buonanno: {a-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}
Varnell: {k-Spades}{j-Spades}

Varnell was up out of his seat event before the {8-Hearts} was put out on the turn, which left him drawing dead. The meaningless {10-Diamonds} was put out on the river to make it official, but by that time Varnell was already headed to the door.

Juanda Eliminated

Level 9 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
John Juanda
John Juanda

EPT Barcelona champion John Juanda has been eliminated from the tournament. He opened for 14,000 from the cutoff and Charlie Carrel defended from the big blind. The flop came {5-Clubs}{9-Spades}{7-Hearts} and Carrel check raised the 15,000 continuation bet to 35,000. Juanda moved in for around 120,000 and Carrel made the call.

Charlie Carrel: {6-Diamonds}{8-Spades}
John Juanda: {K-}{K-}

The {K-Hearts} on the turn probably gave Juanda a bunch of outs, but the {J-Diamonds} on the river wasn't one of them. One EPT Champion gone, 6 remain (Buonanno, Mateos, Mercier, Jensen, McDonald, O'Dwyer, Charania).

Mohsin Charania Eliminated

Level 9 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

We over looked one new entry at the start of the day, Mohsin Charania had bought back in after having been busted on Day 1. His new 250,000 stack has been moved to his neighbor Anthony Zinno by now, in a hand later told to us by the chip magnet himself.

Charania opened under the gun for 14,000 and Zinno flatted from the big blind. The flop came {J-}{6-}{7-} with two spades and Zinno check raised the 12,000 continuation bet to 36,000. Charania moved in for around 200,000 and Zinno called.

Mohsin Charania: {A-Spades}{Q-Spades}
Anthony Zinno: {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}

A red {Q-} hit the turn and an offsuit {6-} completed the board, favoriting Zinno. Charania headed to the exit, another EPT champ gone.

Wheeler Back Doors Into a Flush

Level 9 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Jason Wheeler
Jason Wheeler

Adrian Mateos opened the button to 13,000 and Jason Wheeler in the big blind called. Both players checked the {10-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{J-Hearts} flop and the {7-Hearts} hit the turn. Wheeler bet 19,000 and Mateos called. Wheeler fired another 45,000 on the {6-Hearts} river and Mateos didn't waste much time calling.

Wheeler showed {10-Hearts}{9-Hearts} for the back door flush. Mateos tabled {A-Clubs}{10-Diamonds} thinking he had the better kicker, but soon mucked his cards upon finding out Wheeler had rivered a flush.

River Saves Troyanovskiy

Level 9 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Charlie Carrel opened for 15,000 from the cutoff and received a call from Daniel Dvoress in the small blind. A short-stacked Vladimir Troyanovskiy then three-bet ll in for 91,000 from the big, Carrel folded, and Dvoress made the call.

Dvoress: {a-}{j-}
Troyanovskiy: {a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}

Troyanovskiy got it in as a heavy favorite, but the {k-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{j-Spades} flop proved lucky for Dvoress. Troyanovskiy began to get out of his seat when the {9-Hearts} blanked on the river, but had to sit back down when the {10-Hearts} spiked on the river to give him Broadway and the double.

Dvoress Continues to Slide

Level 9 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Charlie Carrel raised from middle position only to have Daniel Dvoress three-bet to 45,000 from the cutoff. Action folded back to Carrel, and he opted for a four-bet to 100,000, which Dvoress called. Both players proceeded to check it down as the board ran out {5-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{j-Spades}{k-Diamonds}, and Carrel tabled the {4-Spades}{4-Clubs}. It was good as Dvoress sent his cards to the muck.

Snowmen Swallow Up Kenney

Level 9 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Bryn Kenney
Bryn Kenney

We're not sure of the preflop action, but we do know that a short-stacked Bryn Kenney got his last 124,000 all in against Mike "Timex" McDonald.

Kenney: {a-Diamonds}{10-Spades}
McDonald: {8-Spades}{8-Hearts}

It was a flip, but the proverbial coin did not come down in Kenney's favor as the board ran out a lowly {3-Clubs}{4-Spades}{9-Spades}{6-Spades}{9-Diamonds}.
