Big Slick Doesn't Doesn't the Trick for Matias

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Niklas Astedt opened the action for 2,500 from early position and Portugal's Antonio Matias, who was next to act, three-bet jammed for 57,400. The UK's Donald Rae, who was to Matias' direct left, then four-bet all in over the top, which cleared out the rest of the players including Astedt.

Rae: {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}
Matias: {a-Hearts}{k-Hearts}

It was a flip, but Matiaas needed to improve to stay alive. That proved easier said than done though as the board ran out a lowly {8-Spades}{4-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{7-Clubs}.

Higgins Displays Ton of Heart in Largest Pot of Tournament Thus Far

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Simon Higgins
Simon Higgins

The biggest pot of the tournament just took place and proved an awesome display of poker by both Kacper Pyzara and Simon Higgins.

It began when the latter opened the button for 2,000 and the former raised to 6,000. Higgins made the call and then called a bet of 6,000 on the {9-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{9-Clubs} flop. After the dealer burned and turned the {4-Diamonds}, Pyzara fired out 16,000 and again Higgins called.

When the {4-Spades} double paired the board on the river, Pyzara led out for 55,000 and Higgins paused for a few moments before raising all in for 110,200 total.

Pyzara shot back in his chair and clearly wasn't thrilled with the turn of events. Over the next two minutes, Pyzara teetered back and forth between a call and a fold, oftentimes picking up chips and putting them back down. Eventually he shrugged, tossed forward a stack, and at that very moment Higgins began to rise.

Higgins showed the {a-Hearts}{8-Hearts} for nines and eights, but he seemed to know he was no good. Indeed, Pyzara held the {k-Diamonds}{k-Spades} for a bigger two pair and the win.

"I knew what he had," Higgins told the table. "I didn't think he'd call. Nice hand."

Small One for Palma

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

EPT12 Barcelona champ John Juanda, who was also inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame last month, opened for 2,200 from the cutoff only to have Nicholas Palma three-bet to 6,800 from the small blind. Juanda made the call and then folded when Palma bet 6,000 on the {3-Hearts}{j-Clubs}{a-Hearts} flop. Not much of a hand, but it gave us a good excuse to update you on their current counts.

Fast Busts; Deadman and Barer Chop

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Dietrich Fast was all in for 2,100 from under the gun, and Simon Deadman raised to 4,200 from the button. Ami Barer moved all-in from the big blind for around 30,000 and Deadman called.

Fast: {A-}{3-}
Deadman: {K-Spades}{Q-Diamonds}
Barer: {K-Diamonds}{Q-Hearts}

A final board reading {5-Spades}{q-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{4-Spades}{6-Clubs} sent Fast to the rail and the pot was split between Deadman and Barer.

Astapau Adds to His Stack

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Anton Astapau has started his climb back towards starting stack after forcing Kiryl Radzivonau off a pot on the flop.

Radzivonau checked from the big blind on the {3-Hearts}{7-Spades}{5-Clubs} flop and Astapau moved all-in for 18,400. Radzivonau tanked for almost two minutes before folding, and was shown {J-Hearts}{J-Spades} for his troubles.

Reinkemeier Calls It Off with the Ladies

Level 8 : 500/1,000, 100 ante
Tobias Reinkemeier
Tobias Reinkemeier

In the last hand of Level 7, with 47,000 in the pot and a board reading {j-Clubs}{10-Spades}{4-Spades}{6-Diamonds}, Fady Kamar checked from the under-the-gun position and Tobias Reinkemeier bet 16,000 from early position. Kamar responded by check-raising all in, and Reinkemeier hit the tank for more than three minutes before calling off his remaining 38,000.

Reinkemeier: {q-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}
Kamar: {a-Clubs}{a-Spades}

The {8-Spades} river was no help to Reinkemeier and he was sent to the rail. That said, he has yet to use his reentry option, so we expect to see him back in action sooner or later.

Big Call Sees Dobson Double

Level 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

A clash of two players from the United Kingdom has resulted in Ben Dobson climbing to almost 80,000 chips.

Tamer Kamel started the preflop round with a 1,700 raise, a raise that Dobson called from the big blind. Dobson checked the arrival of the {5-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds} flop, but when Kamel bet 2,000, Dobson check-raised to 6,000. Kamel called.

Dobson bet 8,700 on the {A-Spades} turn and was called, before he checked the {8-Diamonds} river. Kamel bet enough to set Dobson al-in for his last 30,400 chips and after a couple of minutes of replaying the hand in his head, Dobson called with {A-Diamonds}{A-} and was good because Kamel mucked.
