The Finns at Work

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Michael Addamo raised to 3,800 and Aku Joentausta called from one seat over, both players in the blinds also defended and the flop came {10-Spades}{9-Spades}{2-Spades}. Action checked to Joentausta, who bet 10,000 and won the pot.

Fellow Finn Kimmo Kurko, who finished 2nd at the EPT10 Barcelona Main Event, check-called a bet worth 6,000 on the {10-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{2-Clubs} turn by Elcio Luiz Romao and both then checked the {6-Diamonds} river. Romao showed the {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts} and Kurko mucked.

Sharonov Drops Some

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Santiago Parra Garcia moved all in for his last 13,100 from the hijack and Day 1b chip leader Andrey Sharonov asked for a count. He then called out of the big blind and the cards were tabled.

Parra Garcia: {J-Hearts}{J-Spades}
Sharonov: {9-Clubs}{8-Spades}

The {K-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}{8-Clubs} flop brought no help just yet, but the {10-Clubs} turn now gave Sharonov flush draw and he pointed at his cards. It was the {7-Spades} river that gave Parra Garcia a double and Sharonov dropped some chips, but remains among the big stacks.

Holozlu Shows His Quality

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Until a few minutes ago, Raffaele Castro was chip leader, but he isn't any more after a dramatic hand with Alisan Holozlu. Castro made the opening raise to 9,000 and Holozlu three-bet to 21,600. Castro called, and the two men saw a flop of {5-Diamonds}{A-Clubs}{9-Clubs} . Holozlu led for 16,000 and Castro called.

The turn of {Q-Diamonds} saw Holo check. Castro paused before doing so to give his opponent a stare-down, which could easily have looked imposing, coming as it did from behind so many chips.

"You have King-King, yeah? I check."

The river of a {K-Spades} gave both players a decision. Holozlu moved all-in for 57,800! Castro now looked in some anguish, and asked if Holozlu would show if he folded.

"If you ask me after the hand...I'll show you. I'll show you one."

Castro folded his hand.

"You want to see?" asked Holozlu? Without receiving an answer, he turned over {J-Hearts}{2-Clubs} and a friendly discussion about the hand broke out between the two men.

"I just nearly cost myself five thousand." said Holozlu. Instead, he's nearly doubled his stack. Castro has lost the chip lead, down to still imperious 289,500 chips.

Appleby vs Guerrero

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Simon Appleby raised to 3,500 from the hijack and Jimmy Guerrero, who finished 3rd at the EPT12 Grand Final for a payday of € 406,850, three-bet to 10,700 out of the small blind. Appleby called and the flop came {8-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}. Guerrero checked, Appleby bet and forced a quick fold.

The Brit laughed and said "you had me worried a bit there." Both players are up in chips from the start of the day, but it's a long way for Guerrero to better the result of his last EPT Main Event.

Van der Peijl Sees Through Marquez

Level 11 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Ana Marquez raised to 3,600 and got calls from both Wouter van der Peijl and Mark Bongaerts. Marquez checked the {8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} flop to Van der Peijl, who bet 6,100. Bongaerts folded, and Marquez called. Both players checked the {3-Hearts} on the turn.

On the {5-Spades} river, Marquez came out blazing with a bet of 18,000. Van der Peijl took a good look at the situation, then flicked in a 100-chip to indicate a call. Marquez didn't show, gesturing Van der Peijl's call was good, and the Dutchman tabled {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts} for just ace high to win the pot.
